Captain Marvel is one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel Universe, but her ultimate form as Binary proved just how incredible her powers could be. In the mid-80s, Carol Danvers' adventures with the X-Men led to her being captured by an alien race, the Brood, who gave her the powers of a White Hole and accidentally made her more powerful than ever before.
Carol Danvers lost her powers, some of her memories, and nearly died at the hands of Rogue, who absorbed Ms. Marvel's abilities and left her for dead. Carol struggled with her new place in the world and became an ally of the X-Men, assisting them on several missions. However, after being captured by the alien race, the Brood, their experiments accidentally created Carol's Binary form. While Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel are incredibly powerful versions of Danvers, her new Binary form possessed powers dwarfing previous versions of the hero. As Binary, all of Danvers' powers were heightened.
In Uncanny X-Men #164 by Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, Bob Wiacek, Joe Rosen, and Janine Casey, Carol Danvers' Binary form debuted. In the issue, the hero feels change inside her after being subjected to evolutionary modification by the Brood, noting something inside her seems to have been triggered. It's revealed the hybrid genes Carol gained when she got superpowers originally evolved after being tampered with by the Brood. They accidentally unlocked her potential and created Binary.
Carol's powers as Binary are truly incredible. She gained immense cosmic powers of a white hole, which increased her abilities tenfold. Going Binary allowed Carol to generate heat, light, and radiation across the spectrum. Danvers could generate the power of a star and gain control of stellar energies and manipulate gravity. She could tap into different energies and use them for extraordinarily powerful attacks. There wasn't really an upper limit to how strong Carol was as Binary, and she constantly proved during her time in the role she was a near unbeatable force.
Carol Danvers time as Binary was the strongest she has ever been, even more than her abilities as Captain Marvel. Binary was a human cheat-code, as she was able to manipulate energy and space around her, turning her into a superweapon. If the Brood knew what would happen to Carol during their experiments, they almost definitely would have avoided activating the genes which gave the hero her ultimate form in the Marvel Universe. Of course, Captain Marvel is one of the strongest heroes ever, but her Binary powers topped even her most famous form and showed Carol Danvers should never be underestimated.
