Carnage Makes His Bloody Return To Marvel At The Worst Time

In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Extreme Carnage, Cletus Kasady makes his bloody return as Carnage in the aftermath of King in Black, but he couldn't be coming back at a more worse time. Anti-alien sentiments are at an all-time high, and a lot of those fears held by the public are being taken advantage of in some pretty significant ways in the Marvel Universe. That being said, it seems as though Carnage has plans of his own now that he's back, and anything he's got in the works is bound to be really bad and almost guaranteed to make things even worse than they already are for symbiotes and their hosts.

In the aftermath of Marvel's King in Black event that saw Knull the Symbiote God taking over the entire globe with his symbiote legions, several symbiotes are still on Earth, though they've since been freed by Eddie Brock who became the new King in Black. Now, many have found ideal hosts and are living together. However, symbiotes have essentially become the new mutants of the Marvel Universe, as they are met with large amounts of fear and hatred by people with little desire to express acceptance and understanding.

Now, Extreme Carnage Alpha #1 from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Manuel Garcia will see government agencies and political groups taking advantage of the fear to build their own power. Not only that, but Carnage has returned in the midst of all of this, and it certainly looks as though he has plans of his own involving his younger siblings known as the Life Foundation symbiotes. Here's the synopsis and preview pages for the upcoming issue:

  • EXTREME CARNAGE ALPHA #1
  • VIOLENCE RUNS IN THE FAMILY!
  • As the dust continues to settle after the species-redefining KING IN BLACK saga, Eddie Brock and his son, Dylan, won't be the only ones learning to adjust to a new normal. Collectively called the Life Foundation, symbiotes SCREAM, PHAGE, RIOT, LASHER and AGONY have tried to reconcile the sometimes-noble intentions of their hosts with their often-bloodthirsty impulses.
  • But the Life Foundation symbiotes aren't the only ones with a part to play in this story, and they aren't the only symbiotes who find themselves reinvented after KING IN BLACK. They have an older sibling who may be reinvented in its own right: CARNAGE.

It looks as though Carnage could very well be the source of the next alien killing-spree the senator is hoping for, which is why it's such as bad time for Cletus Kasady to make his return. Case in point, he's apparently already eaten the flight staff on the jet he came on, and the preview ends with him devouring his driver en route to wherever it is that he's headed next. Any more public deaths caused by symbiotes, and this Senator Krane could get all the power he's hoping for (and it doesn't seem like he'd be the best candidate to become the next president).

Most likely, Carnage will be looking to unite the Life Foundation symbiotes, though the reason and purpose behind why are still unclear. However, it's been confirmed that Flash Thompson's Agent Venom will be involved on some level, so hopefully he'll be able to handle Carnage and keep him in check. In any case, fans will soon know more when the full issue releases from Marvel Comics soon.
