Video Of the Day

Fast & Furious Musical Performed By TikTok User Who Hasn't Seen Movies

A user on TikTok has made a series of videos attempting to create a Fast & Furious musical without ever having seen the films. The most recent Fast & Furious movie, F9, released last month. F9 is currently on track to be one of the highest grossing pandemic release films.

The Fast & Furious franchise spans nine main films over two decades. Its massive success is attributed to its high-octane action – which just gets bigger and bigger every year – and its themes of family and morality. Boasting one of the most diverse ensemble casts of any firmly established action film franchise, Fast & Furious has captured the hearts of many—especially around the world. Though the movies always do well in the states, they perform even better overseas, with a large percentage of the franchise's gross coming from international markets. In fact, Fast & Furious is currently one of the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, beating out classic series such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Transformers, and The Hunger Games. It’s safe to say the Fast & Furious movies are hard to miss.

But that’s not the case for everyone, including TikTok user Rocky Paterra, aka @rockysroad, who created several Fast & Furious themed Broadway musical songs—without ever having seen the films. Paterra, an actor, musician, and comedian based in NYC, is known on TikTok for his theater kid and musical themed humor, including the viral song “I’m An Accountant.” In his initial hilarious take on Fast & Furious, Paterra speaks as Dom, romantically hoping and longing for a “bro” to share his high-speed car journeys with. The songs are full of ingenious car-themed word play and classic musical tropes and motifs. Paterra also shared his first Fast & Furious video on Instagram. Check it out below:

Of course, the actual Fast & Furious story starts off a bit rockier than Paterra pictured. In the series, which originally revolved around illegal street racing and theft and then switched its focus to larger heists and government contracted covert operations, Dom and future best friend Brian start off more as enemies than bros. At the start of the story, Brian, played by the late Paul Walker, is actually an undercover LAPD cop who is tasked with collecting intel on Dom’s street racing and hijacking crew. As Brian becomes more involved in that world, he grows affection for Dom’s chosen “family,” and chooses to let Dom go, jeopardizing his career in law enforcement and his future as a free man. Though the rest of the franchise is full of ups and downs between the two, this act bonds them for life, turning enemies into brothers.

Hopefully, as the franchise continues to grow, the memes and comedy surrounding it will continue as well. Two more Fast & Furious films are on the horizon, rounding out the main Fast Saga with 11 films in total. The franchise has plans to continue even beyond this, expanding its world building with established spin-offs like Hobbs & Shaw and other potential ones, such as an all-female Fast & Furious film. With any luck, Paterra and other creative forces like him will have a lot more material to work with in the coming years.
