It's been 14 years since the original series of Gilmore Girls had its finale, leaving fans to rewatch the series (and its spinoff) again and again. With every rewatch comes a new favorite character, a character flaw pointed out, and even things that they didn't notice the first couple of times through the series.
Thanks to Reddit, fans have come together to share things that they had never noticed their first time watching Gilmore Girls. Some are minor details noticed on clothing while others were deliberate callbacks that got lost in the drama of everything that surrounds Lorelai and Rory.
10 Rory & Lorelai's Edge In The Pilot
Most pilots are a trial run for both the series and the network producing it. Pilots are oftentimes considerably different from the rest of the series in terms of fashion, tone, or even relationships. The same can be said for Gilmore Girls. As memorable (arguably one of the best) as season 1 was, one fan pointed out how different Lorelai and Rory's relationship was in terms of tone.
In the pilot, Rory was upset about Chilton because she met Dean, a student at Stars Hollow High School. Rory was far edgier towards her mom and the two women cursed at each other as well. This kind of communication between the two is later dropped as the show continued on but it's jarring to see it when rewatching the series.
9 The Looming Clown Decor
Lorelai and Rory Gilmore's house has been dissected in each season. Everything from the layout of the home to the organized mess that consumed it, the Gilmore house was a wonderland in itself.
And while everyone remembers the unique monkey lamp that Lorelai bought, there's another piece of decor that appears to be questionable: a pillow with a scary clown stitched on it. In multiple scenes, the creepy pillow can be seen in the background or lounging on the couch next to the Gilmore girls.
8 The Irony Of Richard's Bachelor Party
On the night before Richard and Emily's vow renewal, Richard called Lorelai to remind her to give Emily a good night for her bachelorette. Lorelai had no idea it was her job to throw Emily a bachelorette party and quickly put one together. Meanwhile, fans noticed that Richard threw himself his own bachelor party in the one and only pool house.
The irony of the pool house being Richard's hypothetical dog house and subsequently, the location of his bachelor party was not lost. The pool house wasn't Richard's best decision but it was the space he needed to let loose on both occasions.
7 Luke & Kyle's Hook
When Luke helps Taylor design the Stars Hollow History Museum, he goes along with all of Taylor's quirky rules because he had a special attachment to the house. Unbeknownst to everyone, when Luke and Lorelai began their relationship, he wanted to buy the museum and transform it into their future home.
In 'To Live and Let Diorama,' the museum crew was ready for opening day. Taylor asked the crew to grab hands to manifest great things for the museum. Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Luke hesitantly grabbed Kyle's hook with one finger in a hilarious undercover moment.
6 Rory's Style
Rory and Lorelai have a specific sense of style that every '90s and early 2000s baby can appreciate, and one of the many things fans loved about Lorelai. However, their style in earlier episodes was totally different from the style audiences grew to love.
One fan pointed out how Rory's style used to be more tomboy-esque as opposed to her love of lip gloss and prints in later seasons. She had a love for oversized sweaters and jeans instead of printed skirts and cute jackets.
5 Lorelai Wore Blue To Sookie's Wedding
On Sookie and Jackson's first date, she asked Lorelai to tag along with Jackson's cousin. Sookie and Jackson were both nervous and a double date with familiar people was best. Sookie and Jackson hit it off but Lorelai and Jackson's cousin loathed each other by the end of the night.
Later at Luke's, Lorelai filled Luke in on the date and told him she'd wear blue to Sookie and Jackson's future wedding. Fast forward to the big day, Lorelai did in fact wear blue! Sadly, Lorelai's blue moment was tarnished when Christopher ended things with her because of Sherry's pregnancy, proving Christopher only got worse and worse.
4 Paris Brought Her Own Handsoap To School
Paris's intense personality was exactly why fans adored her so much. She was aggressive, witty, and had some of the best comebacks in the series. She was also particular about hygiene.
One fan pointed out that Paris packed her own handsoap at Chilton. In the scene, Paris goes to wash her hands and instead of using the soap from school, she took out her own bottle of soap from her bag. This ahead-of-the-curve move proved yet again why Paris was the show's unsung hero.
3 Yoga Kills (And Breaks Legs)
At Rory's 16th birthday party, Emily went snooping around Lorelai's house and found a picture of Lorelai in a cast with crutches. Lorelai told her that she broke her leg after a pose-gone-wrong in yoga class.
The photo made Emily realize that she wasn't as identical and close to Lorelai as she had hoped. Later, a fan noted that Lorelai is wearing a shirt that said "Yoga kills," a clear shoutout to the time she broke her leg in yoga class.
2 Earplugs & Adville To Help With The Church Bells
In season 4's 'In the Clamor and the Clangor,' Taylor ordered the church bells to go off every hour throughout the day. The town was not used to the church bells and despised them after a couple of hours.
In one scene, Lorelai is walking by Doosey's Market where there were signs for earplugs and even Adville to help with headaches caused by the church bells. It's one of those background catches that isn't talked about in the script but fans noticed from rewatching.
1 Dean & Rory's Special Candy-Themed Song
Dean and Rory's relationship timeline is a messy one, especially after the two began sleeping together when he was married to Lindsay. After the two slept together for the first time, they decided to choose a song that would remind them of that special night whenever they heard it.
And oddly enough, Rory chose "The Candy Man." However, one fan pointed out that on Rory and Dean's first date at her house, she invites him over to watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. In one scene, the song "The Candy Man" is sung, which is a very subtle callback that some fans didn't notice.
