An overzealous GTA Online NPC showing a lot of dedication just made for a hilarious clip. The video in question has been making the regular social media rounds over the past day, adding to the long list of other funny exploits in GTA Online that have been shared amongst fans. For anyone interested in the robust and detailed world of Grand Theft Auto V and all its potential for amusing moments, this video should be quite entertaining.
As the second best-selling game of all time, Grand Theft Auto V, along with its multiplayer mode, GTA Online, have been host to countless intriguing secrets and charming player encounters. Many of these phenomena stem from the game's still-impressive and sprawling open world, along with its countless NPCs. The AI denizens of Los Santos can typically be seen living their daily lives drama-free, whether that means casually strolling down the game's Los Angeles-inspired streets or engaging in some outlaw debauchery on the mountainous outskirts of town. Thanks to Rockstar's continued support of GTA Online, tons of gamers regularly interact with these minor characters.
One such interaction led to a ridiculous DIY chase scene that was posted to Reddit on July 8. The video shows the player, a user going by the handle IGMS1987, being chased from just outside the Los Santos city limits to just past the casino, a route that spans the majority of the map. The video is sped up so viewers can watch the whole absurd sequence in just under two-and-a-half minutes, but IGMS1987 claims in the comments that the chase took around fifty minutes in real-time.
Apparently, the virtual track star became enraged after IGMS1987 bumped into his vehicle. While most commuters in the real world probably wouldn't chase a car down several miles of highway over this offense, clearly the NPCs of GTA Online follow different standards. While this man and his superhuman stamina clearly pose a threat to reckless drivers in the game, his limits were ultimately revealed when in-game police started firing at IGMS1987 just outside the casino area. Somehow, the man still had enough energy to frightfully sprint away from the shootout.
IGMS1987 could have just unwittingly set a world record for the longest NPC foot chase in Grand Theft Auto history with this spectacular showdown. If those police officers hadn't shown up, there's no telling how far this NPC would have gone. Whether this event was the result of a scripting error or just some perfect combination of circumstances, fans of GTA Online and funny videos in general are sure to get a kick out of it as they wait for more news about the elusive Grand Theft Auto 6.
GTA Online is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
