Loki Premiere Viewership Higher Than Other MCU Disney+ Shows

Loki's premiere episode was streamed more than either of the MCU's other shows during its first week. Loki first premiered on June 9th on Disney+ and represents the third show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show sees Tom Hiddleston return as the eponymous God of Mischief who, after escaping with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgameis detained by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) for deviating from the sacred timeline before being hired on to help them to track down another dangerous Loki variant, Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie.

WandaVision was the first MCU show on Disney+ and premiered on January 15, kicking off phase 4 of the MCU. It followed Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff as she navigated the strange sitcom pseudo-reality she had created for herself as she dealt with her grief over Vision's death in Avengers: Infinity WarThis was followed swiftly by The Falcon and The Winter Soldier which premiered on March 19. It saw Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles as they dealt with the consequences of Steve Rogers stepping away from the role of Captain America after Endgame. The next Marvel series will be Marvel's What If...?, the first trailer for which was released on July 8th, ahead of it it hitting Disney+ on August 11th.

Now it appears that Loki's premiere episode was just as blessed with glorious purpose as the God of Mischief himself, with Indiewire reporting that the show was streamed for over 731 million minutes during its debut week of June 7th-13th. According to the Nielsen ratings, which measure the viewing figures of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Hulu by TV screen with a delay of around a month, Loki beat out its predecessors by a significant margin. During its first week WandaVision accrued 434 million minutes of viewing, while Falcon and the Winter Soldier performed slightly better, gaining 495 million minutes during its first week.

Even more interesting is that Loki's first episode alone almost matched the peak viewing figures for its two predecessors across their entire runs. WandaVision maxed out at 924 million minutes during the week of its finale, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier reaching a total of 855 million minutes during the week of its penultimate episode, before dipping slightly for the finale. With the trend of Disney+ shows increasing their viewing figures as they progress, it's more than likely that Loki's maximum viewing figures will eclipse the aforementioned shows in the coming weeks.

While the viewing figures are undoubtedly a good sign for Disney+, they weren't quite able to help Loki make it to the top spot on Nielsen's ratings for streamed content for that week. Loki ultimately ranked third on the ratings, with first and second place both going to Netflix shows - Sweet Tooth ranked first with 1.4 billion minutes streamed, and was followed by Lucifer with 1 billion minutes. It should be noted however, that at the time only one 51-minute episode of Loki was available to be viewed that week against five seasons of Lucifer and the entire eight-episode first season of Sweet Tooth.

With this in mind, Loki posting as highly as it did is certainly impressive and positive news for the series. It will just be a matter of seeing whether the show can maintain this momentum as the reports are released for the subsequent episodes, especially with its finale right around the corner. Hopefully it can break WandaVision's peak before then. It will be even more interesting to see how Loki compares to Marvel's What If...? when that is released in August.
