Regé-Jean Page Confirms The Saint Reboot Role With Roger Moore GIF

Regé-Jean Page, of Bridgerton fame, confirmed he will star in a reboot of The Saint for Paramount with the perfect response. Page had a successful turn in the period drama, developed by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix. Despite this, it was announced the actor would not reprise his role as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, for the upcoming second season. This did not surprise fans of the novels on which the series is based, which largely wrap up the character’s storyline in the first book.

As previously reported, Page will star in The Saint, as well as executive produce the reimagined version. Page confirmed as much with a tweet featuring a GIF of Roger Moore in the 1960s TV series. Based on the 1920s book series, The Saint follows Simon Templar (or “The Saint”) as a Robin Hood-esque thief for hire, who takes from the rich and gives to the poor. The property was previously adapted for UK TV in a series starring James Bond’s Moore in the 1960s and again as a 1997 movie with Batman’s Val Kilmer. The project has been stuck in development for a while; last year, a version of The Saint (now shelved) had Chris Pine attached.

The news that Page will star in The Saint will do more than just excite fans of Bridgerton. With the actor stepping into the role previously helmed by Moore, Page may now enter the ring of actors considered for James Bond. With No Time To Die finally coming to cinemas later this year after delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, James Bond producers will be eyeing a replacement for Daniel Craig.
