The characters of The Big Bang Theory focus more on their friendships and careers than on their fashion — and it's for good reason t0o. How Sheldon, Howard, Raj, and Leonard dressed was not going to advance them in their professional lives. However, with the group of friends living in California, they sure did opt for a lot of layers.
As for the ladies of TBBT, their style is more agreeable for fans. They opted for fun colors and patterns, and they knew when to keep it light and fun or professional. However, with the main cast (and a few side characters) dressing similarly, it's not as obvious as to who the best dressed is.
10 Howard Loved His Dickey
If there was one thing that fans noticed in the show, it’s how the characters wore the same kinds of outfits but in different colors and variations (aside from Penny). Leonard is known for his glasses, Raj is known for his vests, and Sheldon is known for his t-shirt collection, so what is Howard known for? His love of dickeys! Dickeys give the appearance of wearing a turtleneck under his t-shirts without him needing to wear long sleeves. His style altered slightly when he married Bernadette, but it was still unpopular with Big Bang Theory fans. Most of the time, he kept the dickey but wore it under plaid shirts and lightweight jackets on some occasions. And, due to this fondness of dickeys, Howard is seen as one of the worst dressed.
9 Amy Opted For Dresses And Skirts
Amy Farrah Fowler changed a lot personality-wise over the years, but it was her fashion sense that took some time. For being a young woman in her 30’s, Amy wore clothes that Penny often poked fun at. She typically wore skirts that went down to her knees, tights to cover her skin, and a long sleeve shirt with a vest.
On nights out with the girls, Amy fancied dresses she wouldn’t normally wear and loved the idea of tiaras. It wasn’t until season 12 that Amy’s look got a makeover (thanks to Raj). Her principle of staying covered was the same but she had modernized choices. However, her quick fashion change wasn't enough to get her higher on the list.
8 Raj Loved Layers
Like Amy, Raj didn’t shy away from a vest or layers. Raj’s go-to look was a light jacket, a vest, a buttoned shirt under the vest, and a plain t-shirt under the button-up. He had endless amounts of shirts. However, Raj knows a thing or two about fashion and has mentioned it throughout the series. He loves talking about fashion in pop culture — he even gave Amy a makeover in season 12! And yet his own personal style is off-limits when it’s the one that could need the most help. Because of his many layers and dated prints in the early seasons, Raj had a slow transformation to find a better style.
7 Stuart Was Comfortable In Casual
Stuart’s sense of style wasn’t as drab as the way he feels on the inside. Just as the case with most of the men in the series, Stuart also wears many layers. His go-to look was blue jeans, a t-shirt, and a plaid button-down.
And if his plaid shirts were in the wash, Stuart stuck with neutral color button-downs. His style is comfortable and sensible. And while Stuart has made his fair share of mistakes, his clothes are items he could afford and wear in a multitude of ways to look like he had more than he does.
6 Sheldon Wouldn't Go Without His T-Shirts
Sheldon loved a good t-shirt that connected him to his favorite movie, comic book, video game, or part of science. Unlike Leonard, who typically covered up his shirts, Sheldon wore them proudly with a long-sleeve shirt underneath. His pants of choice weren’t as colorful as, say, Leonard’s, but his shirts always relayed his interests. Because of the simplicity and relatability of his style, Sheldon is not the worst-dressed character, and it's one of the many reasons fans love Sheldon.
5 Emily Sweeney Was Fond Of Business Casual
As Raj’s longest relationship, Emily Sweeney wasn’t around as much as the other ladies, making it harder to nail her personal style. With long auburn hair, Emily tends to wear long sleeve shirts with a few buttons on the top. She also enjoyed floral tops with jeans. Her style was closest to Penny’s but Penny took more risks and wasn’t afraid to dress even more casually than that. Emily and Raj didn’t last in the end, but her style was far better than his.
4 Leonard Was A Fan Of Lightweight Jackets
Leonard is never without his glasses; they’ve become his trademark and it's one of the things Big Bang Theory fans love most about him. Priya tried updating Leonard’s look by making him switch to contacts, but there’s something about Leonard’s glasses that makes him who he is. Clothing-wise, fans easily wonder why a man who lives in Pasadena, California, wears so many layers. Not only does he wear a t-shirt and a zip-up hoodie or button-down of some kind, but he almost always wears a light jacket on top — even when inside! Nevertheless, he was one of the best-dressed guys in the series.
3 Bernadette Had Her Sweaters
It’s hard to think of moments where Bernadette is wearing jeans or sweatpants, because she loved wearing sundresses with small sweaters. With her glasses and golden blonde hair, Howard said time and time again how adorable Bernadette was. Bernadette made a beautiful transformation into season 12 with her consistent style and evolving marriage. Her floral dresses and need for a light sweater in case she was cold looked great on her and was weather appropriate for California, which is just one of the reasons why she’s not the worst dressed in the series.
2 Anu Was Stylish Without Recognition
Anu was fairly new to the group in season 12 but she fit right in. After being placed in an arranged marriage with Raj, it finally looked like Raj found a woman who didn’t loathe him or his friends. She even got along great with Penny and Bernadette. The relationship ended up being a bust, but her style reigned strong. As someone who worked at a hotel, Anu always looked professional yet approachable. She loved firm-fitting dresses, suits, and romantic tops — she wasn’t afraid to play around with style, which is why her wardrobe was so well-received.
1 Penny Wasn't Afraid To Play Around With Fashion
Penny can been chosen as the best-dressed character throughout The Big Bang Theory for any season. She played around with fashion, changed her look often, and stuck to her values. As Penny got older, she started wearing looser shirts and baggier jeans but she always looked stylish and comfortable. And unlike most of her friends, Penny knew just what to wear to different occasions. She dressed up for date nights, loved little black dresses on girls' nights, and she genuinely had fun with fashion, making her the best dressed.
