The Green Knight Printable Posters Highlight Dev Patel's "Hot Knight"

New printable posters for The Green Knight highlight Dev Patel's "hot knight" Sir Gawain. The A24 film was originally scheduled for a theatrical release in May of last year after its premiere at South by Southwest, but the film festival was canceled and movie theaters remained closed for much of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many films in 2020, The Green Knight was taken off A24’s release calendar. Many thought the indie film was primed for a PVOD or streaming release, but the art-house studio bided their time until it could be released in theaters.

From director David Lowery, known for his work on the previous A24 film, A Ghost Story, The Green Knight’s title is derived from the ubiquitous Arthurian legend Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, on which the film is based. Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) and Ralph Ineson (The Witch) star as the titular knights. The film follows Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s foolhardy nephew, as he embarks on a dangerous quest to confront the giant green-skinned knight. The film also stars Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Erin Kellyman.

Now, The Green Knight has gotten some new character posters highlighting Dev Patel's heartthrob appeal as Sir Gawain. The “Hot Knight Centerfolds” are available to be printed on A24’s website. Included are three posters of Patel looking gallant and brooding as the famous knight in various pieces of period garb. Check out the new posters below:

The posters are being billed by A24 as "Medieval Times meets Tiger Beat," in reference to the popular tween magazine, which actually might turn out to be a brilliant marketing ploy by the studio. Lowery’s directorial style, as evidenced by A Ghost Story, may be challenging for many viewers. These posters highlighting Patel as a heartthrob may attract members of a demographic that otherwise may be repelled by The Green Knight’s slow-paced plot and enigmatic themes.

The delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic may actually come with some silver linings for The Green Knight, as it gave the lower-profile film some more time to get the word out. During the latter end of its marketing campaign, the film has demonstrated some creative methods of attracting viewers. In addition, Lowery used the newfound time to completely recut the film to give the Oscar-winning Vikander more screen time and improve its pacing after being dissatisfied with the initial edit. The Green Knight will certainly be one of the most uniquely entertaining films to hit theaters this summer, on July 30.
