The Witcher 1 Is Free During GOG WitcherCon Sale | Screen Rant

Gamers who haven't yet played the first game in The Witcher series can grab themselves a free copy thanks to a promotion from GOG. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition introduces Geralt of Rivia in his first ever video game outing, one that was missed by many players who've only experienced the multiple-award-winning The Witcher 3, which was recently added to PS Now.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is a dark fantasy game with a real-time combat system and a deep and complex narrative exploring what it truly means to be good versus what it means to be evil. Originally released in 2008, the game isn't the most successful in The Witcher game series, meaning lots of players missed out on the incredible adventure. The biggest name in the franchise is arguably the third Witcher installment, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game launched to critical acclaim when it released in 2015, and has since received DLC expansions and even a Nintendo Switch port. According to CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3 has sold over 30 million copies worldwide as of April 2021.

The free game promotion celebrates the upcoming WitcherCon event, which will see game developer CD Projekt Red and multiple stars of the Netflix show appearing in various panels to honor the series. GOG is fueling excitement for the event by offering free copies of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, which can be claimed via the GOG Galaxy app. As well as the free game, players can also enjoy up to 85% off other PC games in the series, including The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, and, of course, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its DLC expansions. The deals can be found on GOG's specially-created hub, which also includes developer interviews, a breakdown of the WitcherCon schedule, and a huge giveaway fans won't want to miss.

Fans have been celebrating WitcherCon early with a series of Witcher-inspired activities and crafts shared by various official Witcher social channels. The Witcher's official Twitter account even released a free download allowing those with 3D printers to print their own Witcher wolf's head medallion. WitcherCon kicks off today, July 9, streaming on both Twitch and YouTube, and should provide something for fans of the books, Netflix show, and games. Sneak peeks will be given of both Netflix's The Witcher season two, as well as a glimpse at the upcoming animated feature film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, also coming to Netflix.

CD Projekt Red will have two talks about the games during the event's panels: "Memories from the Path: Stories Behind the Witcher Games" on July 9, and "The Witcher: Beyond Video Games" on July 10. While the panels will feature a number of CD Projekt Red developers who have worked on games in the series, it's been revealed that no new Witcher games will be announced during WitcherCon.
