Atlanta Season 3 Premiere Confirmed For First Half 2022

FX Chairman reveals during the network's Television Critics Association panel that Atlanta season 3 will premiere sometime in the first half of 2022. Created, starring, executive produced, directed and primarily written by Donald Glover, the dramedy series has been a critical hit since its premiere in 2016, garnering two Golden Globes and five Primetime Emmy Awards. The success of Atlanta led to FX swiftly renewing the series through season 4 and Glover signing a deal with the network for a short time before ultimately signing a new one at Amazon Studios.

Atlanta centers on Earnest "Earn" Marks, a 30-something dropout struggling to get by and looking to redeem himself in the eyes of his ex-girlfriend Van, also the mother of his daughter, parents and his cousin Alfred by helping the latter rise to stardom with his rap career as Paper Boi alongside his right-hand man Darius. Earn, Alfred, Van and Darius frequently find themselves in precarious and surreal situations while also facing the very real struggles of financial hardship, racism, homelessness and a variety of other social issues. Alongside Glover, the cast for the series is led by Brian Tyree Henry as Alfred, Zazie Beetz as Van and Lakeith Stanfield as Darius.

Fandom Managing Editor Eric Goldman took to Twitter to share the news from FX's TCA panel that Atlanta season 3 has been confirmed for an early 2022 premiere. Landgraf also revealed that production on season 3 primarily took place in Europe and is currently in the post-production stage. The chairman did note that it is currently moving slowly as the cast and crew are filming season 4 currently, which returns to the titular Georgia capital

The wait for the premiere of Atlanta season 3 has been nearly unbearable for those who fell in love with the series in its first two seasons. Initially delayed by scheduling conflicts with its lead cast, namely Glover and his last Childish Gambino tour, production was further pushed back due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, having finally gotten underway this past April after a three-year hiatus since the premiere of season 2. Though the wait may have been difficult to stomach, it appears to nearly be over and should very well be worth it.

Given there was a two-year gap between the first and second seasons of Atlanta and the latter seeing even higher reviews than the former, the extra time devoted to shooting season 3 and getting it to audiences should see Glover and co. deliver the best chapter yet. The multi-hyphenate has already hyped up seasons 3 and 4 of Atlanta as reaching the same heights of The Sopranos, a series many consider to be one of the greatest to ever grace a screen. Only time will tell if the next seasons of the series clears fans high expectations when it arrives early next year.
