Every Mass Effect Squadmate Ranked By Likelihood To Die In The Suicide Mission

Bioware recently revealed Mass Effect Legendary Edition stats that showed what decisions players made in the series, detailing which characters were most likely to survive the suicide mission in Mass Effect 2. The squadmate survival rates are particularly revealing.

There are many factors that go into who lives through Mass Effect 2's suicide mission, from individual loyalty to an obscure point system that determines the fate of those who hold the line. It can be difficult to keep track of it all at the best of times.

The official Mass Effect Twitter account's tweet can be analyzed for a great deal of interesting information, but the following list shows which Mass Effect 2 squadmates are most (and least) likely to die during the suicide mission.

Mordin Solus, the doctor of the team, is the most likely to die in any given player’s playthrough of the suicide mission. There is also a designated order in which characters die if the team left behind to hold the line isn’t strong enough, and Mordin is the first on the list.

While Tali is a fan-favorite character and one of only two characters who remain at Shepard’s side throughout all three Mass Effect games (the other being Garrus), she’s also a relatively weak character who’s highly likely to die while holding the line. This is especially true if Tali's loyalty mission wasn't completed.

Another squishy character, Jack is not only highly likely to die, but she won’t even make it out of the Normandy’s cargo hold if Shepard didn’t upgrade the Normandy’s armor.

Zaeed is a tough character with high points, and he’s not likely to die if he’s loyal. However, if Shepard hasn’t done his loyalty mission, he’s not going to be much good to them.

Thane is another frail character who is very likely to die if left behind to hold the line. If he’s brought along on the long walk and Shepard doesn’t have a sufficiently powerful biotic specialist, he’s the squadmate who will be carried off by the Collector swarms.

Just like the above, Kasumi is a very fragile character who is marked for death if Shepard’s got a disloyal squad holding the line, and she can also die in the vents if Shepard hasn’t completed her loyalty mission.

Samara (or if Shepard chose her in the loyalty mission, her daughter Morinth) is a tough biotic warrior, meaning she’s not very likely to die, but the chances increase if she isn’t loyal.

The geth sniper Legion is one of the more difficult squadmates to kill. He’s relatively durable, even if he’s not loyal - but if Shepard chooses him as the vent specialist without doing his loyalty mission, he’ll be toast.

Miranda is one of the first characters to present her loyalty mission to Shepard, therefore it’s likely that most players will do the mission, thus increasing her chances of survival exponentially.

Grunt is one of the toughest squadmates, meaning he’s very likely to survive even if disloyal. He’s the most likely to survive if left behind to hold the line, even if the squad is relatively weak or disloyal.

Like Miranda, Jacob is one of the first to present his loyalty mission, increasing the likelihood players will do it and thus up his survival odds. He’s also one of only a few characters who won’t die during the initial Omega-4 relay jump, no matter how many ship upgrades the player neglected to buy.

It’s almost a given that Garrus will survive the suicide mission. Not only does he have more points, meaning he’s more likely to survive if left behind to hold the line, but he’s also a prime candidate to lead the secondary fireteam. His popularity among Mass Effect fans also means that more gamers likely did his loyalty mission.

All squadmates can survive Mass Effect 2's finale, but one missed loyalty mission or one neglected ship upgrade, and one of Shepard’s beloved Mass Effect squadmates won’t be around for Mass Effect 3.
