Every Upcoming Brendan Fraser Movie | Screen Rant

At long last, the "Brenaissance" has arrived – here’s every upcoming Brendan Fraser movie. The beloved actor had been out of the limelight for quite some time, due to a variety of factors including concerns with his health and family, and bravely speaking about his experience with sexual assault. Recent years have seen a gradual career resurgence for Fraser, but his latest casting announcements suggest he will return stronger than ever.

Fraser was wholly underappreciated during his heyday in the 1990s and early 2000s, effortlessly switching between genres to accumulate an eclectic filmography. He is adept at physical comedy and exceedingly charming as a romantic lead, starring in blockbusters George of the Jungle (1996) and The Mummy (1999). He’s also an underrated dramatic actor, excelling in Gods and Monsters (1998), a biopic about Frankenstein director James Whale, and as a duplicitous CIA agent in The Quiet American (2002).

His career slowed down in the ensuing decade, although Fraser has received praise for his recent TV roles, most notably in Danny Boyle’s crime drama Trust and as Cliff Steele/Robotman in Doom Patrol, in which he currently stars. He also had a fun supporting role in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move, released on HBO Max last July. However, Fraser is set to make an even bigger impact with exciting dramas from Darren Aronofsky and Martin Scorsese, while also returning to comedy in a mysterious project from the director of Palm Springs.

Currently in postproduction, The Whale is based on the acclaimed play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter, who also wrote the adaptation’s screenplay. The drama includes Stranger Things and Fear Street star Sadie Sink, and is directed by Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a DreamBlack Swan) and produced by A24. Fraser stars as the 600-pound Charlie, who attempts to reconnect with his teenage daughter after abandoning his family for his late gay lover and turning to binge-eating to compensate for his grief. The Whale promises to be another thrilling psychological drama from Aronofsky and is exactly the kind of leading role Fraser needs. He’s proven his capability in intense roles, such as his volatile security guard in The Affair, and has the sensitivity to deliver a truly heart-breaking performance.

This Western crime drama marks the sixth collaboration between Oscar-winners Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. From a script written by Eric Roth and based on the nonfiction book by David Grann, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and charts the FBI’s investigation into the murders of members of the wealthy Osage tribe of Native Americans. The crimes became known as the Reign of Terror, and DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro will play the antagonists, with Jesse Plemons cast as the lead FBI agent. Fraser will reportedly play lawyer WS Hamilton, and production is currently underway. While a supporting role, Fraser’s addition to a film comprised of such esteemed talent only builds anticipation for the Paramount and Apple TV+ co-production.

The premise of director Max Barbakow’s Brothers is currently unknown, but the Legendary Entertainment-produced comedy is currently filming in Atlanta. Fraser joins an impressive cast that includes the new Toxic Avenger, Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Josh Brolin, and Glenn Close, while the script was written by Etan Cohen and Macon Blair. Comedies like Blast From the Past (1999) and Bedazzled (2000) displayed Fraser’s natural ability to alternate between ridiculous antics and sincerity, making this role particularly intriguing.

Although none of the films have yet announced a release date, it won’t be long before Fraser returns to cinemas. Although only The Whale marks a lead role, his supporting presence in numerous projects has refashioned him as one of Hollywood’s most fascinating character actors. It’s about time Brendan Fraser receives the parts he always deserved.
