A fan of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has discovered a clever way to solve tree-based Korok puzzles in the game without risk of failure. The beloved Zelda title first released in 2017, and now, four years after its initial launch, the depth of puzzles, exploration, and gameplay mechanics mean that Breath of the Wild is a go-to open-world game when compared to other titles in the genre.
To date, players are still finding clever ways to interact with Breath of the Wild's gameplay mechanics. The game features a variety of special Runes that Link can use to interact with the world around him in a number of creative ways. It also sports an array of special movement and traversal mechanics, including a paraglider and the ability to shield surf down slopes. These mechanics offer players a well-stocked toolbox with which to interact with the world around them, and they have found a number of ways to use it. For instance, one fan figured out how to shield surf indefinitely in Breath of the Wild using the rounded edges of the game's Sheikah Towers, and examples abound of players beating in-game puzzles in ways that Nintendo likely never anticipated.
One such example comes from Diamond-Herobrine on Reddit, who found a clever way to solve a Korok tree puzzle in the game. These puzzles are encountered in the form of three fruit trees growing in a line. The player must identify the tree with more fruit growing on it than the other two, and pluck every fruit from it but one, so that each tree has a single fruit growing in exactly the same spot. The player figured out how to solve this puzzle without the risk of picking the wrong fruit and ruining the puzzle. They identified the fruit they were supposed to preserve and used the Stasis rune, which froze it in place. They then chopped down the tree, leaving only the single fruit hovering in midair. The game recognized that only one fruit remained in the proper spot and rewarded the player, proving they had found a smart way to acquire one of Breath of the Wild's trickier Korok seeds.

Fans' love of Breath of the Wild has spawned not only clever puzzle solutions like this but also anticipation for the long-awaited sequel. Breath of the Wild's currently unnamed successor was first revealed in 2019 and remained shrouded in secrecy until a gameplay reveal at E3 in 2021. This footage gave viewers a lot to speculate over, including a first look at new gameplay mechanics and a set of mysterious floating islands in the sky that Link will be able to explore when the game launches in 2022. Some theories suggest new interpretations on the role of series villain Ganondorf, while others predict a playable Zelda or offer theories on Breath of the Wild 2's sky islands.
Resolutions to these questions and theories won't arrive until the game's release next year, but if the trailer is accurate, fans can look forward to a greatly expanded set of tools and mechanics with which to pull off clever tricks like this one. Diamond-Herobrine's tree puzzle solution is a smart timesaver for fruit-picking Breath of the Wild players and one more example of the clever exploits fans can pull off in Nintendo's expansive game.
