Lucifer season 6 marked the end of Netflix's hit series, but is there still a continuation for the Devil and his human friends planned for the future - perhaps Lucifer season 7? Lucifer season 6 picks up after season 5's cliffhanger where Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) became God. But the Devil has good reason to stall his ascension to becoming the Almighty when Rory Morningstar (Briana Hildebrand), his daughter with Chloe Decker (Lauren German) from the future, time travels to confront Lucifer over his mysterious disappearance.
Lucifer's first three seasons aired on Fox but the series was a middle-of-the-road performer that was canceled in 2017. However, Netflix saw the fan outcry to save Lucifer and purchased the rights to the series, giving Lucifer a 10-episode season 4 on the streaming service. Netflix then ordered Lucifer season 5, intending it to be the end of the series, but the streamer changed its mind. Lucifer season 5 became 16 episodes split into two parts that streamed in late 2020 and early 2021. Meanwhile, production on Lucifer season 6 happened in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the final season received a September 10, 2021, release date on Netflix.
Lucifer season 6's 10 episodes include multiple callbacks to the beginning of the series as well as a special animated episode that follows up on Lucifer's popular gimmicks like the black and white film noir and musical episodes of season 5. Of course, whether or not Lucifer fully becomes God is resolved in season 6, as is the emotional conclusion to the Devil's love story with Chloe Decker. With Lucifer season 6 concluding the series, here's everything we know about the potential of Lucifer season 7 and whether the Devil or any of his friends could pop up elsewhere in the future.
Unfortunately for Lucifer fans, season 6 really is the end of the series. When Netflix originally canceled Lucifer with season 5, the show's producers approached it as the end before Netflix reversed course and ordered a 6th season, which the streamer promises is, indeed, the final season. Lucifer's producers and cast signed a new deal for a 10-episode season 6 to completely resolve the show's story. Of course, anything is possible and Netflix could, theoretically, order more Lucifer in the form of a movie or even a miniseries in the future, but there is no indication that a full-blown Lucifer season 7 will happen.
Tom Ellis reprising Lucifer Morningstar in another Arrowverse crossover has an outside chance of happening. Ellis officially brought Lucifer to the Arrowverse (and went to great lengths to keep his cameo a secret) during Crisis On Infinite Earths in 2019. Further, the Arrowverse maintained the Multiverse's existence after Crisis, and Lucifer also utilizes the Multiverse within its own series.
And thanks to The Flash season 8's Armageddon crossover event, which brings back Mia Queen and Black Lightning, there's precedence for characters returning after their series have ended. So Ellis could return as Lucifer in a future Arrowverse crossover, even though his show won't be on the air. Although Matt Ryan retired from playing John Constantine on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Constantine was a conduit of sorts for the Devil's appearance in Crisis, Lucifer meeting The CW's superheroes once again could be possible if the right circumstances present themselves.
There are currently no Lucifer spinoffs in development or being planned. Lucifer's series finale resolved every main character's arc and gave everyone from Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt), Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia), Dr. Linda Martin (Rachael Harris), and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) fitting endings to their individual stories. Further, Chloe and Lucifer ended the series together in the afterlife after showing the future where an elderly Chloe dies with Rory at her bedside. Unless Netflix changes its mind (again), Lucifer appears to be definitively over with season 6.
