Another sorcerer may be joining Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Marvel Studios might be casting the role of Clea. After barely dealing with magic in the first two Phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase 3 was finally able to explore the mystic arts through Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange. Starring in his own solo film as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Strange became one of the most powerful characters in the MCU and one who could take on a larger role moving forward.
This could begin in Doctor Strange 2, which is shaping up to be arguably the biggest film in Phase 4. It has been known that the multiverse would be fully explored ever since Kevin Feige confirmed the film's title at San Diego Comic-Con, but the scope continues to grow. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) is set to co-star in the movie opposite Strange. At the same time, Doctor Strange franchise characters like Wong (Benedict Wong) and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) are expected back too. However, not all familiar faces are returning as director Scott Derrickson recently left the project. While Marvel Studios searches for a new director, it also looks like they're looking to cast several new characters.
In the latest update on the film, The Illuminerdi reports Marvel Studios is casting a lead female role that is thought to be Clea. Marvel is searching for an actress in her late 20s to early 40s to play the part. They are looking to find someone with "leading lady" qualities, which further highlights the size of the role. These details are vague enough for this part to not be Clea, but her history with Strange in the comics makes her the most likely option.
Clea was introduced in Marvel Comics in 1964's Strange Tales #126. She is the daughter of Umar and niece of Dormammu who meets Strange in the Dark Dimension. Clea and Strange not only work together but eventually develop a romance. With Marvel Studios looking to cast someone who is close-ish in age with Cumberbatch, the romantic angle could be in play if this is Clea. It's also worth noting that the previous creative team on Doctor Strange was interested in using Clea in a sequel. But, it is still possible that Clea is not the identity of this character.
That said, if Clea is in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it will give Strange another powerful ally that could already be familiar with alternate dimensions. She would add to a growing roster of magical characters that potentially includes America Chavez aka Miss America and Brother Voodoo. Of course, it's possible that her presence could also signal the return of Strange's previous foe Dormammu, especially since Strange no longer has the Time Stone to hold him back. But, we'll have to wait for casting announcements for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before we know whether Clea is in the film.
