Mortal Kombat 2021 Movie Trailer May Arrive This Summer

The first trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat, live-action movie may arrive this summer. Mortal Kombat is a popular video game franchise that first hit shelves in 1992, and has become the most successful fighting game franchise in video game history. The Mortal Kombat games are known for being extremely violent, with players given the option to perform a "fatality" on defeated opponents, which are often creatively brutal finishing moves performed by the winner. This could include ripping off the opponent's spine or reducing them to ash.

The Mortal Kombat games have also been adapted into comic books, a card game, YouTube television series, and even a live-action movie in 1995. While the Mortal Kombat movie did well financially, the movie is often critically panned for its cheesy dialogue, weak plot, and mediocre acting. The sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation received similarly negative responses from critics. The movie left fans wanting a better adaptation of their favorite video game, to do it justice. Fortunately for fans, they will get another chance to see their favorite fighters on the big screen. The upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, which was delayed for a few years, picked up after James Wan signed on as the producer in 2015. This past December, the movie wrapped up filming and went into post-production.

According to one of the producers of the upcoming movie, Todd Garner, the first trailer for Mortal Kombat may be released sometime this upcoming summer. When a fan on Twitter asked Garner when to expect a trailer for the movie, Garner responded that he believes it should be this summer. If Garner's timeline is correct, this means that the trailer will drop half a year ahead of the 2021 release date.

Mortal Kombat will be directed by first-time director Simon McQuoid, who will be working with the screenplay written by Greg Russo. The talented cast for the upcoming movie includes Joe Taslim (Warrior) as Sub-Zero, Mehcad Brooks as Major Jackson 'Jax' Briggs, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, and Josh Lawson as Kano. Lewis Tan (Iron FistInto the Badlands) will play a lead role, but no one knows yet which character he will be portraying. Both the actor and the studio have been tight-lipped about the character's identity, but there have been some rumors that circulating that the character in question could be Johnny Cage. However, this is purely speculation.

Hopefully, some of the questions about Mortal Kombat will be answered with the premiere of the debut trailer. Perhaps Tan's role will be revealed. If Garner's prediction is accurate, fans will find out this summer. There is no doubt a lot riding on the success of the Mortal Kombat reboot. The first movie adaptations were weak movies, so the reboot will have to redeem the franchise. In the meantime, there is also a highly-anticipated animated movie, Mortal Kombat: Scorpion's Revenge, that will be released this year.
