With Black Widow right around the corner and the trailers continuing to tease what we should expect from the film, plenty of fan theories have started to spread. These include everything from the plot of the movie to the deaths of characters.
While some of these fan theories seem to have a very accurate element to them, other ones seem completely unfeasible. Here are five fan theories that really make sense and could actually happen and five that don't add up at all!
10 COULDN'T HAPPEN: DIFFERENT TIMELINE
There's been a lot of speculation that this film actually takes part in a different timeline, one where Black Widow has actually survived. The fan theory suggests that at the end of the film someone from a different timeline will take her back to the main continuity.
This, however, seems like an elaborate and dangerous way for the character return. It would probably become too confusing for many fans, and the actual Black Widow film would feel like it was irrelevant since it did not happen in continuity.
9 MAKES SENSE: MULTIPLE TASKMASTERS
The Taskmaster is traditionally just one man. However, there has been speculation that there are actually multiple people wearing the mask across the film. Normally the powers of Taskmaster are that he can replicate the abilities of other people.
However, with other people appearing as the character it would explain why they have a variety of skills to choose from. It would also explain why Red Guardian could be seen fighting Taskmaster one minute, but could also be using the shield later, under the skull helmet.
8 COULDN'T HAPPEN: BLACK WIDOW REVIVAL
There's been plenty of fans hoping that this film will somehow lead to the revival of Black Widow. While Steve Rogers is returning the soul stone, which could bring her back in some way, the likelihood is that her death is a permanent one.
This film is set way before the events that lead to her death, so it's going to play more like a prequel, taking place during the era of the Sokovia Accords. A revival of Natasha would cheapen the impact of her demise.
7 MAKES SENSE: HAWKEYE APPEARANCE
Some of Black Widow's best moments in the MCU has also come alongside her relationship with Hawkeye. It was the kind of friendship that makes this universe so unique and gives it all so much more depth. Their emotional connection eventually played into her death.
Since Clint Barton is such a large part of her life, it makes complete sense that he may make a small cameo appearance in the film. There's a number of ways this could happen, one of which we will talk more about later.
6 COULDN'T HAPPEN: Natasha NEVER DIED
While some people want Natasha Romanoff to be revived, others think that she never actually died at all. There's always plenty of ways that a hero in the MCU can survive a particularly deadly attack.
The use of Skrulls is one such option, as is life model decoys which have been introduced in the past. Another option is the face mask that can disguise the appearance of a hero to make them look completely different. However, it's likely that none of this will actually be used in Black Widow.
5 MAKES SENSE: BUDAPEST FLASHBACK
There's been so many mentions of the time that Clint and Natasha fought together in Budapest that we have to see it at some point. There's no better time to show this adventure than in a Black Widow solo film.
It makes complete sense that not only will there be a flashback to Budapest, perhaps with the characters fighting some of Black Widow's most dangerous enemies, but this period of time may even play into the plot.
4 COULDN'T HAPPEN: AVENGERS CROSSOVER
Since this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there's always a chance that there will be other cameos. Since Tony Stark is supposedly going to be making an appearance, many have speculated that all the original Avengers will be showing up.
However, this will take away from the fact that Black Widow is finally getting a solo film. It seems odd, therefore, that they would put in all the other heroes again, just so that it will link in some way to more films. After all, the Sokovia Accords are in effect at this point in the timeline.
3 MAKES SENSE: TRAITOR ON TEAM
There's plenty of fan theories circulating that there will actually be a traitor on the team that will betray everyone else and perhaps be working with the Taskmaster. With so many players in the mix, this is almost a given.
It's difficult to imagine this film taking place without a surprise twist that shows us that at least one of her former friends is actually working against the others. The question really is not if it will happen, but who it will be.
2 COULDN'T HAPPEN: STRANGER THINGS LINK
The hit Netflix series has released its own trailer that shows the character of Hopper working in Russia. This has caused speculation that due to David Harbour playing both Hopper and Red Guardian, they could actually be the same person.
There's been a lot of fun theories that this is Red Guardian's real origin and that the world of the Upsidedown could be brought into the MCU. This is, of course never going to happen though!
1 MAKES SENSE: NEW BLACK WIDOW
This film could very well be setting up the future of the MCU. One way to do that is to set up the next Black Widow. The prime contender is, of course, Yelena Belova who has taken on the role in the comics
Played by Florence Pugh, it seems as if parallels are being drawn between her and Natasha so that she can take on the Black Widow legacy and continue on in the MCU as one of the newest heroes on the scene.
