Exclusive: One Finger Death Punch 2 Is Coming To Switch and Xbox One

After a critically acclaimed release on Steam last year, One Finger Death Punch 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One soon. Screen Rant was enamored with the deceptively simple stick figure brawler when it launched, and now we're excited to share an exclusive look at how the game will play on consoles.

In April 2019, Silver Dollar Games took everything that players enjoyed from the original kung fu outing and dialed the entire experience up to eleven. One Finger Death Punch 2 is a 2D brawler with easier controls but far more flash than most fighting games to which console players are accustomed, allowing them to live out their most ridiculous martial arts fantasies. Every round sees players kill dozens of enemies as quickly as they can in a flurry of hilariously lavish animations, using a huge assortment of weapons, anime superpowers, and even the occasional impromptu Dance Dance Revolution-esque rhythm game. The Steam version also shipped with an impressive amount of content, sporting a bevvy of unique modes that ranged from challenging to the sort of bemusing charm that only a small, dedicated team can deliver.

One Finger Death Punch 2 will finally be coming to consoles, hitting the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One on February 26, 2020. Although the core experience will be the same one that so many PC players love, the exclusive trailer below suggests that there are some fresh extras in the upcoming console ports. First is the club, a fairly straightforward weapon with which players can bludgeon foes. There will also be a few all-new modes. Johnny's Minefield seems to be an explosive new take on the formula, keeping timed players on their toes with environment hazards. Two more unnamed modes were also shown; one resembles Peggle and has to do with dogs literally armed to the teeth taking revenge on humans, while another head-scratcher revolves around a man picking his nose (after No Luca No, it's better to not ask questions).

Aside from what's new, Switch and Xbox One players will presumably be getting all of the content that came with the PC release, including a long campaign spanning nine worlds, over a thousand unique fight animations, and more than six hundred levels. However, it's not yet clear if Steam users will receive any of the new hotness currently being teased for consoles. The original release may be extremely content-rich for the price, but a free update would probably be well-received. Also unknown is the status of the GOG version of One Finger Death Punch 2, which is listed as one of the game's platforms in the new trailer but still has no release date in sight.

Every platform needs more middle-shelf indies that don't take themselves too seriously while still nailing its mechanics and presentation, so it seems odd that One Finger Death Punch 2 is skipping over this generation's most popular platform. If it's most ideal for any platform, though, it's definitely the Nintendo Switch due to its lo-fi, pick-up-and-play nature - getting an Xbox One port is just a plus. That said, this likely won't be the last players will hear from Silver Dollar Games about One Finger Death Punch 2, and it can be hoped a Steam update and GOG version are next on the list.
