Friends: The Worst Thing Ross Did | Screen Rant

It's no secret that Ross Geller ranks low on the list of favorite Friends characters in the eyes of many viewers. This isn't a dig at David Schwimmer, the actor behind the decade-long role, but instead, a reason to question why the writers made Ross the absolute worst character. Sure, he provided some memorable quotes and served as one half of a key relationship in the show, but he also did some pretty awful things to his friends and significant others.

When Ross was introduced in Friends, he was still in a bad state from his divorce from Carol. When Rachel Green reentered his life, his romantic feelings for her instantly came back. Despite the feelings, the timing wasn't on Ross and Rachel's side with other relationships, the birth of Ben, and Ross' trip to China. The "will they or won't they" situation became a driving subplot throughout Friends. The pair finally entered a relationship in season 3, but it didn't last. They then struggled with further complications from a Vegas marriage, a divorce, the birth of their daughter, and various trust issues before ending up together in the series finale.

To no surprise, Ross' worst action in the series stemmed from something he did to Rachel. There were surely other choices such as the fact that Ross seemed to forget his son, Ben Geller, even existed. The treatment of his various girlfriends also didn't shine Ross in the best light. Some fans would argue that the whole "we were on a break" event as the most problematic thing Ross ever did, seeing as he cheated on Rachel mere hours after their encounter without discussing the "break." The worst of the worst, however, came in Friends season 6, in which Ross failed to get his marriage with Rachel annulled and then lied to her about it for selfish reasons.

At the end of Friends season 5, it was revealed that Ross and Rachel got married in a Las Vegas wedding chapel while drunk. When they realized what they had done, Ross promised to get the marriage annulled, something that Rachel was adamant about. When Ross thought it over, he was terrified at the fact that he would have had three failed marriages, so he secretly stayed married to her. Rachel eventually found out and became furious at him for understandable reasons. He completely deceived her for his own personal reasons because he cared more about his status with multiple divorces than he did about Rachel's feelings. It also seemed like a strange abuse of power that he would secretly remain married to her as a way to claim a successful relationship in his mind.

The pair later went in front of a judge to officially get their marriage annulled, but it was rejected so they were forced to get a divorce. Even after the annulment mess, Ross and Rachel had another fling, which resulted in the birth of Emma. By the end of the series, Ross and Rachel reunite for good and presumably live as a happy family. Despite the happy ending, many fans viewed their relationship as the weakest on the show, especially when compared to Monica and Chandler. There were so many trust issues between Ross and Rachel throughout Friends, but the failed annulment stood as something many viewers couldn't overlook.
