Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020's Biggest Reveals & News

Samsung held its Unpacked 2020 event today where it officially introduced its latest consumer smartphones, the Galaxy S20 series and the all-new Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone. In addition, Samsung also announced Galaxy Buds+, the company's latest set of true wireless earbuds.

The Galaxy S20 had been the subject of many leaks in recent weeks, although much of the news had been overshadowed by the Galaxy Z Flip. This is yet another new smartphone from Samsung, but one which comes with a foldable display - marking the second foldable phone to come from the company following the Galaxy Fold. However, the rumors had pointed to the new foldable phone adopting a design that’s more similar to the Motorola Razr foldable, thanks to a vertical instead of horizontal fold.

Now that Samsung has officially announced its latest devices, the previous rumors appear to have been largely correct. However, and in spite of the crazy amount of leaks leading up to today, some important details remained unknown, including the price. Here’s what you need to know about the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Z Flip, including how much you'll have to pay and when you can buy. For those already sold on Samsung's latest products, some of them are already available to pre-order directly from Samsung's website.

As expected, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is Samsung’s newest phone, featuring a 6.7-inch foldable display. The new phone also comes with a secondary “cover display” which can provide notifications, as well as date, time and battery information. The other notable display-related feature is the Galaxy Z Flip can remain open at various angles unaided, making it ideal for hands-free video calls. Samsung’s latest foldable phone is due to go on sale starting February 14, 2020, although it will only be available in limited quantities with consumers able to choose between Mirror Purple and Mirror Black color options. In terms of the price, the Galaxy Z Flip will retail in the U.S. starting at $1,380. Those on the hunt for something a little more special might want to hold out for the Thom Browne Edition Galaxy Z Flip - although Samsung has yet to confirm how much the New York fashion brand-inspired version will cost.

Although not as much of the star as it should have been at Unpacked 2020, the Galaxy S20 series represents the premium smartphones most Samsung customers will be expected to buy this year. The Galaxy S20 is set to become available next month with three options to choose from. On offer is the standard Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S20+ and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The latter is the newest addition and the largest of the three with a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ display. The Ultra also comes with upgrades in the battery, camera, and RAM departments, compared to the standard and Plus models. Other notable Galaxy S20 features include 5G support, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and 120Hz display support - all of which are available with all three models. In addition, Galaxy S20 buyers can expect access to additional Netflix bonus content and features as a result of a new partnership between the subscription service and the phone-maker. Those looking to pick up a new Samsung Galaxy S20 will be looking at paying $999 to $1,599, depending on the model and storage limit selected.

Also in line with previous expectations, Samsung announced a new pair of true wireless earbuds featuring 2-way speakers, three mics, longer battery life, and iOS compatibility. The Galaxy Buds+ are rated to offer up to 11 hours of music playback before requiring a charge, can be powered back up again with the included carry case, and draw on AKG tuning to provide a “superior sound quality.” The Galaxy Buds are expected to go on general sale in March (along with the Galaxy S20 series), and will be priced at $149.99 in the U.S. Keen buyers can already pre-order the new earbuds directly from Samsung, with the expectation they will ship by February 14.
