Selling Sunset’s Christine Quinn called out fellow cast members Jason Oppenheim and Mary Fitzgerald work relationship, claiming Jason favors Mary because of their past dating history. The show revolves around their brokerage group and requires the cast to be in close quarters while battling it out for the next best listing. Although the girls are capable of getting their clients and next big paycheck, it could be easier if the owner of the company also happened to be your supportive ex-boyfriend. This is the case for Jason and Mary, who previously dated and lived together before the show but still remain close friends and maintain an intimate work relationship.
Jason and Mary can be seen physically touching each other in and out of the office, despite Mary being engaged to her fiancé, Romain. In season two episode two, the office seating chart hierarchy is acknowledged by fellow cast members, to which Jason responded that the fellow Sunset realtors areseated in proximity to him based on how long he has personally known them. Jason states, in jest, that his twin brother, Brett, is his “womb mate,” and that’s why he sits right next to him at the front. After Brett is Jason’s ex-girlfriend and proclaimed best friend, Mary. The rest of the team chimes in with protest about how long they have been with company, including Heather, who griped about not being closer to the front of the office even though she has been with company for four years. Besides the office politics, Jason and Mary are constantly calling each other “baby,” ensuring that each other is their only best friend, co-parenting two dogs, and, according to Christine, Jason makes sure that Mary gets the best listings in the office.
Christine calls out Jason and Mary’s work relationship a few times throughout the show, especially when it came to Davina’s $75,000,000 listing, which Jason opposed vehemently throughout the season causing tension between them. Christine chimed in saying, "If this was Mary's listing, he would be like 'yeah babe', 'get it babe', but that's just Mary, so...” Selling Sunset’s resident mean girl doesn't hold back on her comments about Mary, and as a result their friendship unravels on-screen. Whether or not the office favoritism played a part in Christine’s criticism of Jason and Mary, she is not the only one who has something to say about their unusual work habits.
Heather, as previously stated, had some grievances, but resident peacemaker Maya also chimed in when asked in an interview with a producer what it’s like when Jason and Brett assign a property to you. The mother of two responds, “I don't know, ask Mary.” This coupled with Christine and Heather’s comments make it apparent that the ex-lovers’ office relationship hasn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the team.
While tension swirl around the office regarding the unconventional work dynamic between the exes, it is necessary to point out that Jason and Mary have been friends for over 20 years prior to dating, so it isn’t shocking that they have a much stronger relationship with each other than with the rest of the team. Although this history bleeding into work and securing listings can be frustrating for the rest of the crew, it seems like the Selling Sunset ladies are able to handle their own and compensate for the lack of favoritism in the office.
Selling Sunset has been renewed for a season 3, premiering in August.
