Harry Potter: 10 Coolest Things You Can Buy In Hogsmeade

Harry Potter spends the bulk of his time at Hogwarts but, from his third year on, also visits Hogsmeade as well. It is the only all-wizarding village in the whole of Britain and boasts a great array of things to do, from visiting joke shops like Zonko's or sweet stores like Honeydukes.

But what are the best things you can buy there? We've got you covered - just in case you ever get your letter to Hogwarts. Make sure you get your permission slip signed though...

10 Butterbeer

Let's start with the obvious. A delicacy of the wizarding world is Butterbeer, which is the favored drink of choice among Harry, Ron and Hermione whenever they choose to call in at The Three Broomsticks or Hog's Head.

You can actually try it should you go to the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Japan or Florida. It's also able to be purchased online and at the Warner Bros Stadio Tour London, which is another must-visit for any fan of the franchise.

9 Firewhisky

We're not sure what age you have to be in order to consume some of Hogsmeade's strongest drinks, but it's the adults who mostly stick to the Firewhisky. Like Butterbeer, it's also sold at The Three Broomsticks and Hog's Head.

It actually nearly kills off Ron Weasley when Horace Slughorn gives him some after curing him of a love potion in the Half-Blood Prince. Little do the pair know it's been poisoned by Draco Malfoy but Harry is on hand to save the day, finding a bezoar and shoving it down Ron's throat. A close escape.

8 Sneakoscopes

The wizarding world is full of amazing artefacts that you couldn't find in your average shopping mall. And sneakoscopes are certainly worth buying if you decide to call in at Dervish and Banges, the wizarding equipment shop of Hogsmeade.

Sneakoscopes are dark detectors that lets you know when somebody untrustworthy is nearby. Harry has one that he thinks is broken all year long - until it emerges that Mad-Eye Moody has been Barty Crouch Jr the whole time.

7 Chocolate Frogs

Harry's first magical treat in The Sorcerer's Stone is a Chocolate Frog card. He buys it on his journey in to Hogwarts on the Hogwarts Express and is stunning when he sees the kind face of Albus Dumbledore looking back at him.

Ron confesses to being a collector and, together, the pair make their way through the items that Harry has purchased. Like Butterbeer, you can buy them in real life. The frogs don't move - but that's probably for the best.

6 Treacle Fudge

If you've ever made treacle fudge, you know you want it to be nice and gooey. Harry and Ron don't get that when they go to Hagrid's, though: the half-giants recipe is so thick that their teeth come very close to being stuck together.

What they should have done is go to Hogsmeade instead. Treacle fudge can be bought from Honeydukes, the famous wizarding sweet shop. Harry first goes there in the Prisoner of Azkaban, sneaking in with a little help from Fred Weasley, George Weasley, and the Marauder's Map.

5 Gillywater

Butterbeer and Firewhisky aren't the only drinks you can savor if you're to take a trip to The Three Broomsticks or Hog's Head. Gillywater is also a possible tonic of choice.

It's purchased by Minerva McGonagall when she, Cornelius Fudge, and Rubeus Hagrid stop for drinks in the Prisoner of Azkaban. In the books their conversation is eavesdropped on by Harry, who learns that Sirius Black was his godfather, and responsible for the death of his parents. Until he later learns that Peter Pettigrew was to blame, that is.

4 Mulled Meade

As mentioned above, Hagrid is present at the meeting between McGonagall and Fudge in the third book and movie. And his favorite drink is Mulled Meade, with Madam Rosmerta's recipe supposedly popular among visitors to The Three Broomsticks.

It's actually quite something that Hagrid and Fudge choose to sit at the same table given the latter had been wrongly imprisoned in Azkaban just mere months before. It's a good job he's a kind soul, otherwise, the whole thing would have been extremely awkward.

3 Tea and Coffee

While wizards are special, they also like to do ordinary things once in a while. And that involves having tea and coffee.

Both can be purchased from Madam Puddifoot's cafe. Harry and Cho Chang go for a Valentine's Day date here in the Order of the Phoenix book but the whole thing is rather disastrous. The pair actually end up breaking up with Cho unable to forget the death of Cedric Diggory, who had died by Lord Voldemort's hand the previous school year.

2 Dungbombs

One of the things we wish was in the movies was Zonko's Joke Shop. Admittedly it doesn't make a great deal of difference that it wasn't included but, in the source material, it provides some light comic relief.

You can buy all sorts there but we have a soft spot for Dungbombs. You used to be able to use the things to cause distractions in the Harry Potter video games, leaving your enemies unaware. Zonko's was once the source of interest from Fred and George Weasley before they decided to open their own shop in Diagon Alley instead.

1 Norwegian Ridgeback Dragon Egg

So this isn't something you'd be able to buy legally in Hogsmeade. However, that said, you'll still be able to obtain an illegal Norwegian Ridgeback Dragon Egg if you know the right places to hang out.

Hagrid actually lands one for free after gambling with a mysterious man in The Hog's Head. Unfortunately for him, that man ends up being Professor Quirrell, who is under the thumb of Lord Voldemort. The Dark Lord used Hagrid to procure information on how to sneak past Fluffy the Three-Headed Dog - catching the half-giant off guard.
