Legends of Tomorrow Theory: How Season 6 Introduces The Wonder Twins

Legends of Tomorrow season 6 is heading into outer space, which is the perfect venue to finally introduce the Wonder Twins into the Arrowverse. The elfin brother and sister tandem, Zan and Jayna, were introduced in the 1970s Super Friends cartoon and entered the pop culture lexicon thanks, in part, to their famous catchphrase: "Wonder Twin powers, activate!" The Wonder Twins existence has been teased since the end of Crisis On Infinite Earths when their pet space monkey, Gleek, was let loose in the Justice League's Hall of Justice in Central City.

Legends of Tomorrow has referenced the Wonder Twins in the past, indicating they were part of a cartoon Nate Heywood (Nick Zano) watched as a child. In Legends of Tomorrow season 6, Nate and Behrad Tarazi (Shayan Sobhian) joked that Behrad and his older sister Zari (Tala Ashe) were like the Wonder Twins since they both have the ability to wield the powers of the Air Totem. Of course, Zan and Jayna's powers worked differently; the twins needed to bump fists and announce their power activation before they could use their very different abilities: Zan can mimic any form of water while Jayna can transform herself into any animal, be it alien, mythological, or from Earth. The Wonder Twins have also appeared in live-action on Smallville (which is part of The CW's superhero Multiverse) but they have yet to officially arrive in the Arrowverse.

When Legends of Tomorrow season 6 ended, Captain Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) was suddenly abducted by aliens while she and her team were in 1970s London. Her team wasn't even aware that their leader was snatched but when they do realize it, Sara's girlfriend and Co-Captain Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) will stop at nothing to get her back - and that means the Legends are going to blast off into outer space aboard the Waverider. Legends of Tomorrow's showrunner Phil Klemmer told EW that season 6 will continue the Arrowverse's most innovative show's winning format of toying with different genres. Season 6 will homage different TV shows and movies about fighting aliens and alien invasions. This opens up the perfect venue to introduce the Wonder Twins, who hail from the planet Exxor. Legends of Tomorrow could even do a Super Friends parody the way they did a whole episode roasting Friends, Downton Abbey, and Star Trek.

Since Gleek is already (presumably) on Earth, it would be a simple matter for Zan and Jayna to come looking for their lost monkey and encounter the Legends. The Wonder Twins may even know who could have kidnapped Sara and why, and perhaps they share a common enemy. The Legends could team up with the Wonder Twins, maybe even visit Zan and Jayna's homeworld of Exxor, and the comedic possibilities of Gary Green (Adam Tsekhman) getting attached to Gleek as his pet (to replace his dog, Gary Jr., who was revealed to be an evil Hell hound) are endless.

The Wonder Twins are ideal gateway aliens who are immediately recognizable to DC fans. While Legends of Tomorrow's season 6 outer space concept opens up the DC Comics cosmos and its eclectic cast of alien beings, it's not clear yet which, if any, of those characters will be allowed to be used in the Arrowverse, especially since the upcoming Green Lantern series on HBO Max will probably have dibs on most of the aliens. But it's not as likely that Green Lantern would need to introduce the Wonder Twins, who would be a more natural fit for the Arrowverse.

Legends of Tomorrow season 5 also boasted a new emphasis on family, including Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) growing close to his teenage daughter Lita (Mina Sundwall). Introducing the Wonder Twins would bring in a different sibling dynamic and it would be very entertaining to see how Zan and Jayna would interact with Behrad and Zari, the Waverider's resident brother-sister superhero duo. Of course, the Wonder Twins appearing in the Arrowverse is still unconfirmed but The CW's superhero shows have proven time and again how adept they are at fan service and wish fulfillment. If Zan and Jayna finally do debut in the Arrowverse, Legends of Tomorrow is the best place for the Wonder Twins' powers to activate.
