The Flash Movie Producer Teases An Update Is Coming Soon

Fans eager for an update on The Flash movie won't have to wait much longer, with producer Barbara Muschietti revealing that news regarding the DCEU installment is coming soon. Created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino, Barry Allen took up the superhero mantle previously held by Jay Garrick in the 1940s. Despite being the second iteration of the character, he became the most well-known and enduring version of the Scarlet Speedster. As such, he has been brought to life countless times in both animation and live-action. Played by Ezra Miller, the big-screen version of The Flash made his debut via a brief vignette in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

He later returned more prominently alongside Ben Affleck's Batman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher's Cyborg, and Jason Momoa's Aquaman in Justice League. As well as helping resurrect the previously fallen Superman (Henry Cavill), The Flash also contributed to the defeat of Steppenwolf and an army of parademons. The team-up movie was intended to set up a solo adventure for the hero. Unfortunately, in the wake of Justice League's underwhelming reception, The Flash movie experienced a number of setbacks. Things appeared to take a monumental leap forward, however, when IT's Andy Muschietti signed on to direct and the official release date was moved forward by a month. Were it not for the widespread shutdowns caused by the Coronavirus, The Flash would have begun pre-production in April.

Despite that, further developments have still been taking place behind the scenes. Muschietti, who often produces her husband's directorial efforts, revealed as such on her personal Instagram page. The initial post was a shared message of support for the Black Lives Matter movement, specifically in relation to seeking justice for Breonna Taylor. Talk of The Flash subsequently emerged in the comments, when a fan sought updates as a reprieve from the dire state of current events. Muschietti promptly replied in the affirmative, confirming that fresh news regarding the film was not too far away. A screenshot of the exchange can be seen in the space below:

Muschietti offered not even the slightest hint as to what that news might be. There have been several rumors circulating of late, however - which the updates could ultimately confirm or deny. Primarily, it was reported in May that the role of Iris West might be recast. Kiersey Clemons landed the role of Barry Allen's comic book love interest and was set to debut in Justice League. Unfortunately, her scenes were cut when Joss Whedon took over as director. As teased in some previously released images, Clemons will almost certainly be a part of the Snyder Cut of Justice League - which has been confirmed for release via HBO Max in 2021. Further casting announcements could also include who will play the DCEU's version of the villainous Reverse-Flash. After all, despite the shutdowns, the casting process could still have taken place via online mediums.

Miller's continued involvement has also been the subject of fierce debate in recent weeks. He recently reprised the role alongside Grant Gustin's Arrowverse incarnation during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Since then, the actor was embroiled in controversy when a video emerged of him seemingly choking a woman in Iceland. No criminal charges stemmed from the incident, however, and no further statements were made. Whatever the case may be, fans can at least be glad that The Flash movie is definitely still moving ahead and some fresh details are forthcoming.
