Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. The Reverend: 5 Things We Loved In The Special (& 5 Things That Ruined The Show)
After four seasons of impeccable writing and adventures, Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt came to an end. Fans have seen Kimmy overcome obstacles since becoming free after years spent underground as a hostage Mole Woman. When Netflix announced that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was coming out with an interactive special, fans were thrilled.
The special was released on Netflix earlier this year, and while it has fantastic reviews due to the excitement of choosing Kimmy and co.'s path, there were a few moments that didn't sit too well with diehard fans. Keep reading to discover the special's most beloved and most hated moments.
10 Loved: Kimmy Found Love!
One of the best parts about Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was that it wasn't too focused on Kimmy's romantic life. It was about a woman finding her place in life and what direction she wanted to go in. She made friends, helped people with their problems, and tried making the world a better place.
In the Netflix special, Kimmy ended up finding romance with an English prince named Freddy. While falling in love was never Kimmy's main goal, it is comforting knowing that she'll never be alone and have someone as great as Freddy to spend her time with.
9 Hated: Why Did Freddy Have To Kiss Lillian?!
As great as a catch as Freddy is, he kisses Lilian during his "bachelorette" party. Of course, they find out there are some deep-seated issues revolving around him and his attachment to his nanny — who looks just like Lilian — but Kimmy deserved better than that.
What's worse is that no one tells Kimmy what happened. Freddy was both remorseful and embarrassed by the situation and Lilian took charge and making sure he was ready for marriage, but it was still a big secret to keep from the bride-to-be.
8 Loved: Titus Is A Star
In the Netflix special, it's revealed that Titus is finally the star he's always dreamed of becoming. After all, with as much talent as Titus has, the world deserves to see his name in lights. When he's lounging in his apartment, viewers can see some of his movie posters on the walls, proving that he is a new breakout star. Jacqueline is still his representation and handles all of the details, which ends up saving Titus' behind when it comes to the movie he's making in Kimmy vs. The Reverend.
7 Hated: The Reverend Escaped & Repeated His Wrongdoings
It's as if the Reverend didn't learn a thing while being in jail. One would think that after keeping women hostage for 15 years and being imprisoned for his crimes that he would turn over a new leaf. But in Kimmy vs. The Reverend, he escapes from jail and does the whole thing all over again.
It's not said where he found his four newest victims but he didn't do a good job of hiding being Kimmy and Titus caught him in the act. Thankfully, Kimmy found the bunker and rescued the women while also sending the Reverend back to jail.
6 Loved: Kimmy Will Always Do The Right Thing, Regardless Of Time Constraints
There's one scene in Kimmy vs. The Reverend where Kimmy has the Reverend in a compromising position. She could either shoot him, 'splode him, stomp him, or spare him. If the viewer chose one of the more abusive options, the special would take you back to the options to think again. Deep down, we all know Kimmy isn't the kind of woman who would ever cause physical pain on another person. Even after ruining her life, she spared him to find the women. Kimmy will always do the right thing.
5 Hated: We Didn't Get Enough Xanthippe
Kimmy and Xanthippe had such a fun dynamic throughout Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Xan popped up in the special but fans wished she made more of an impact. She and Kimmy hated each other at the beginning but they soon learned to tolerate and grow from each other. Xan needed someone like Kimmy to bring her down to earth, and fans wished they saw more of her life as an adult in the special.
4 Loved: Jacqueline Still Represents Titus
Jacqueline went from a snobby socialite to an independent woman. After divorcing her husband with Kimmy's help, Jacqueline got back in touch with her roots and fought for what she believed in. She also found a new love for managing people, namely Titus. She became his agent, and it's fun for fans to see her efforts pay off in the special. Now that Titus is a big name in Hollywood, Jacqueline has become credible and found her footing in her latest chapter.
3 Hated: We Wanted More Mikey & Titus Time
While it's understandable that Kimmy vs. The Reverend had more important storylines to take care of, fans love Titus and Mikey as a couple. We've seen the highs and lows of their relationship and wanted to see how they were doing now that Titus is a star. Sadly, we didn't get enough of these two because Titus was busy helping Kimmy find the Reverend. Fans can feel good knowing that the couple was still happily married, though.
2 Loved: It Gave Fans A Happy Ending For Kimmy & Co.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of those shows where viewers want happy endings for everyone — except the Reverend. The main characters are such loving and charismatic people that you can't help but want the best for them. They all have their issues but Kimmy helps bring out the good in everyone. Seeing Kimmy and Freddy get married, Titus become a star, and Jacqueline grow into a successful career woman is the happy ending fans deserved.
1 Hated: Not Hearing Enough About Kimmy's Life As An Author
It looks like Kimmy's book The Legends of Greemulax has led to a life of riches. In the special, Kimmy is living in a swanky penthouse with the cover of her book above the fireplace in her living room. It's obvious her books have become quite successful, but fans can't help but want to know more about her life as an author. Sure, there's only so much time a Netflix special has, but it's amazing to see Kimmy so accomplished after living underground for 15 years. Now that Kimmy is married, what's next for the new author?! We'll never know!
