Though we have seen a few big-screen versions of Spider-Man at this point, the MCU Spider-Man films have been a huge hit with fans. After the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which revealed Peter Parker's identity to the world, anticipation for the third film is through the roof.
Though the film is still a couple of years away, there are already plenty of rumors surrounding Spidey's next adventure. From story details to new characters, there's a lot of news that has fans excited. But there is still so much not known about the film and some big questions that need answering.
10 Rumor: Kraven Is The Villain
The MCU Spider-Man films have done a great job of using villains fans have not yet seen in the live-action films, like Vulture and Mysterio. Many people are speculating that this third film will bring in a villain fans have been waiting for years to see — Kraven the Hunter.
In the comics, Kraven is a formidable big game hunter who sees Spider-Man as the ultimate hunting trophy. He seems like the perfect villain to keep up this streak of fascinating new foes. He also feels like a natural fit for where the story seems to be going.
9 Question: Will It Tie Into The Sony Films?
It was huge news when Sony and Marvel reached a deal to allow the MCU to use Spider-Man in their films while Sony still had the rights to the character. However, Sony was not just going to sit on their hands and wait for Marvel to be finished with the web-slinger.
With Venom already established, Morbius on the way, and several other films rumored, Sony is building their own shared universe. Since Spider-Man: Homecoming appears to tie into Morbius, many are wondering if this film will further bridge the gap between the two universes.
8 Rumor: Spider-Man Is A Fugitive
Though Mysterio seemed to die at the end of Far From Home, he was still able to get the last laugh by revealing Spider-Man's secret identity. Not only that, but he also made Spider-Man out to be the villain.
Given that ending, many think that the new film will find Spider-Man on the run and wanted by the authorities. This would be a great way to put Spider-Man in a vulnerable position and Kraven could play a bounty hunter-type hired to track down the fugitive superhero.
7 Question: Will J. Jonah Jameson Return?
As if Peter Parker being outed to the world wasn't shocking enough, the post-credit sequence also included a surprise cameo from J.K. Simmons reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films.
Though it was just a brief appearance, it would seem like such a mean tease to not bring Simmons back for the next film. He would fit perfectly into the story as a new pundit stoking the flames of public anger against Spider-Man.
6 Rumor: Norman Osborn Will Be Introduced
Ever since Spider-Man joined the MCU, fans have been anticipating Norman Osborn's introduction to the universe. Osborn is, of course, one of Spider-Man's most prominent enemies and he has been a significant part of the overall Marvel universe.
There are plenty of rumors floating around that Osborn will finally be making his debut in the next film. It feels like he would work best as a puppet-master villain, perhaps as the one who hires Kraven, and then he can become a more central threat in later films.
5 Question: Will Miles Morales Appear?
Miles Morales was introduced in the comics years ago as the next Spider-Man, but the character has reached a new level of popularity in recent years with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Though fans love Peter Parker, it feels like the right time for Miles to get his live-action debut.
Some have suggested that Miles will be introduced in this film in order to set up him taking over the mantel of Spider-Man from Peter Parker and becoming the live-action hero for a new generation.
4 Rumor: Big Cameos
For some reason, the Spider-Man films seem to be a good opportunity to bring in some fellow MCU characters in cameo roles. Tony Stark, Captain America, and Nick Fury have all popped up in Spidey's solo ventures, so it makes sense that there would be some notable appearances in the third film.
With Peter Parker potentially facing some legal trouble in the film, some rumors suggest either Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, or Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, will serve as his lawyer. Other rumors suggest Deadpool or Doctor Strange could appear and add some fun to the adventure.
3 Question: What Will Happen To Peter's Life?
Since the MCU kicked off with Tony Stark revealing to the world that he was Iron Man, secret identities haven't been a big deal in these superhero movies. However, Spider-Man was different as young Peter Parker had to protect his life and the people in it from that secret getting out.
It's safe to say that this third film will see Peter's world turned upside down. His relationship with MJ was just taking off, so what will become of that? Will Aunt May or Ned become targets of his enemies? And how will things ever go back to normal for him?
2 Rumor: Uncle Ben Will Appear
Uncle Ben has always been a huge part of Spider-Man's origin story and the one who taught him that "with great power comes great responsibility." Seeing as fans are well aware of that origin story by now, the MCU decided to avoid it and have Ben already be dead when we meet Peter.
Though Tony Stark filled that mentor role, it would be nice to see this aspect of the character addressed. Some rumors suggest Ben will finally be seen in a flashback as Peter goes through this difficult time.
1 Question: Spidey's Last Solo Film?
Fans got a scare last summer when talks between Marvel and Sony broke down and it looked like Spider-Man would no longer be involved in the MCU. Thankfully, a new deal was eventually reached, which was said to include one more solo film and two team-up movies.
As of now, Thor is the only hero to exceed three solo films, so it wouldn't be crazy to think this could be Spider-Man's last solo adventure. Whether that deal is expanded on or if he'll continue in Sony's universe remains to be seen.
