Demon's Souls 12-Minute Gameplay Video Visits Most Iconic Bosses & Locations

A brand new PS5 State of Play presentation for the exclusive Demon's Souls remake has given fans a look at how some famous locations, bosses, and characters from the original game look and play in the remake in a substantial 12-minute deep dive. As one of the few PlayStation 5 exclusives to launch for the console in November, Demon's Souls has been highly anticipated by players. The quality of the original title and the far-reaching success of FromSoftware's subsequent games, such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne, has also added to the excitement.

FromSoftware has already revealed that the Demon's Souls remake won't support some of the PS5's more advanced features. That means the game will not utilize ray tracing technology to offer improved lighting, although the visuals will be significantly upgraded compared to the original 2009 game. The remake will also be just as challenging as fans remember, as the developer is not adding any new difficulty options.

Sony has released a brand new State of Play trailer for Demon's Souls, posting the footage on the official PlayStation YouTube account. The video shows off some of the fan-favorite locations and bosses, giving viewers a sense of how they have changed in the upgraded remake. SIE Worldwide Studios Creative Director Gavin Moore also confirmed that this new game has not been built from the ground up. Instead, the developer has worked with the original code, updating it as needed while adding the upgraded textures, models, and other visual elements. That means that Demon's Souls will have very little new content but will be able to run at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

Although additional content is not something that the developers are focusing on, Demon's Souls will come with a variety of gameplay improvements and extra features. Chief among them is a far more comprehensive character creation tool along with a respec system and a Mirrored Fracture Mode. Making use of the Activities tile in the console, the remake will also come with more than 180 videos to help guide players through tricky sections.

Although the original Demon's Souls was not as popular as FromSoftware's later games, the title still has some iconic locations and bosses. Seeing them in their enhanced form is encouraging, as it looks as if the developer is staying true to the style from the first game but also significantly upgrading them in terms of quality. With so few proper PS5 exclusives coming with the console's launch, that will be good news to those who are planning on picking up Sony's next-gen system.
