Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion Disney+ show featuring Nick Fury and Talos will reportedly start filming in April. Secret Invasion is best known to Marvel Comics fans as one of its biggest crossovers, but the story will now be adapted for Disney's streaming service. The Marvel Cinematic Universe original series was announced in late 2020 after rumors of Samuel L. Jackson returning for a Nick Fury-led Disney+ show. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Secret Invasion is that project.
The announcement of Secret Invasion came as part of Marvel's push to release even more streaming content than fans expected. 2021 will see the studio drop six original shows on Disney+, and the likes of Secret Invasion, Armor Wars, and Ironheart all figured to be a bit further down the pipeline given when they were announced. The only confirmed details about Secret Invasion is that Ben Mendelsohn will return as Talos, the shapeshifting Skrull from Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home's post-credits scene.
According to a new listing by Production Weekly (via LRM Online), it appears Secret Invasion will start filming much sooner than expected. The project details obtained by the outlet say that Secret Invasion begins production on April 5. This date is not confirmed by Marvel, and it is normal for reported production start dates like this to shift slightly over time. It is best to take this information with a grain of salt for the time being, but this could provide an idea for when Marvel plans to be filming Secret Invasion.
If Secret Invasion does begin filming in April, it will start shortly after Moon Knight and She-Hulk. Both shows are reportedly set to start production in March, which has led to a few Moon Knight casting announcements recently. With Secret Invasion on a similar track, it might not be too long before it is revealed who else will join Fury and Talos in this series. Feige has downplayed the show's scope matching the comics due to the insane number of characters involved, but the series should still be a packed ensemble based on the storyline.
This positive news on Secret Invasion should be exciting for fans to see. After just beginning to see what Marvel can accomplish on Disney+ with WandaVision, the prospects of a classic crossover like Secret Invasion coming to the small screen is intriguing, to say the least. And while Marvel might try and hide what other MCU characters will appear - and possibly be revealed to be Skrulls in disguise - an April start to production could bring leaks. This should also put Secret Invasion on track to be released sometime in 2022 and well before Captain Marvel 2 arrives in November 2022 and presumably builds off whatever happens in the show.
