Two of Marvel's most unkillable heroes, Wolverine and Deadpool will soon have another showdown, but this one might be their fanciest battle yet, taking place during the events of the X-Men's Hellfire Gala. Wolverine #13 is coming soon, featuring a unique perspective and angle on what will be one of the biggest nights in X-Men history, seeing a newly elected X-Men team revealed at a massive celebration held by the Hellfire Club and the mutant island nation of Krakoa. Furthermore, Wolverine and X-Force will be running security for the event, and it seems as though Deadpool will be seen by Logan as a security risk... because he's Deadpool, and of course he is.
The Hellfire Gala has been teased for a while now in Marvel's various X-Men titles, and the month of June will debut the party in grand scope and scale, with the events therein being featured across 12 different issues, each offering a unique perspective on a night to remember. While the big draw is certainly the debut of Jean Grey and Cyclops' new team of X-Men, elected by their fellow mutants (and fans) for the first time, S.W.O.R.D. will also reveal its plans for the future of humans and mutantkind, and more surprises are sure to come as well.
However, it looks as though Deadpool may be intending to make some sort of splash of his own, so long as he's not stopped by Wolverine. Wolverine #13 will be coming from writer Benjamin Percy with interior art by Scot Eaton, while the cover art will be provided by Adam Kubert. On the released cover art, Wolverine and Deadpool are both gussied up for the big night, though Logan looks ready to put Wade in the ground. Here's the cover art and synopsis from Marvel Comics:
HELLFIRE COMPROMISED! Can WOLVERINE and X-FORCE keep the peace or is the gala doomed?
The best part of the cover art is definitely Deadpool maintaining his dainty hold on his martini while also keeping the hors d'oeuvres on his plate, despite Logan ready to skewer him with his claws. However, it's not yet clear as to what sort of risk Wade Wilson poses, though it's likely he's not just there to enjoy the Hellfire Club's big spread. It wasn't so long ago in Deadpool comics that Wilson requested a Krakoan gate for his monster kingdom of Deadpoolopolis (formerly Staten Island), and was promptly rejected by the X-Men. Since that time, it's been pretty apparent that Wade has little love for the mutant nation paradise, and it's therefore likely that he didn't actually get an invitation to the Gala, hence Wolverine trying to take him out.
It's going to be very interesting to see what Deadpool has planned, but as the Hellfire Gala is intended as a huge political statement by the mutant nation, his usual brand of chaos could actually be even more damaging than normal if Logan can't keep him under control. Here's hoping that Deadpool's party crashing is the worst thing that happens at the X-Men's gala, and that Wade isn't distracting Wolverine's attention from more direct threats lurking at the party.
