The recently released Resident Evil Village is already breaking franchise records on Steam, becoming the first entry to achieve over 100,000 peak concurrent players. Capcom launched the horror title today, less than one year after its announcement during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal showcase.
In terms of market performance, Resident Evil titles typically do well across the board. A couple of the more recent installments have even become top-sellers for Capcom as a whole, with Resident Evil 7 moving over 8.5 eight million units worldwide. According to the last count, Resident Evil 2 Remake is fast approaching eight million copies sold itself. The remake set Steam records a couple of years ago, too, topping 75,000 peak concurrents - most notable for being a series high. Capcom's latest horror-filled adventure is already outpacing its predecessors on this front, though.
Twitter user and industry analyst Benji Sales shared a brief report of Resident Evil Village's day one player count on Steam. RE Village now counts as the first Resident Evil game to exceed 100,000 peak concurrent players, the analyst noted. Reportedly, this is 25,000 concurrents higher than the record-breaking peak hit by 2019's acclaimed Resident Evil 2 Remake. The post from Benji Sales appears below:
Suffice it to say, the newest installment in Capcom's long-running horror franchise is already off to an incredibly strong start. It'll be interesting to see how Resident Evil Village fares on the sales charts in the weeks and months ahead, especially on the heels of predominantly positive review scores across the board. The success of Resident Evil 7 suggests Capcom has nothing to worry about on this front, though.
RE Village may even outperform its 2017 predecessor. The hype surrounding the adventure appears to be at an all-time high for the brand, which is undeniably thanks to the internet's continuously expanding obsession with Lady Dimitrescu. Her towering height initially drew people in, as did her overall Victorian era-inspired costume design, which quickly spawned a Vampire Lady cosplay craze that's yet to cease. Capcom's recent release of public demos engendered yet another craze of sorts, evident in some of the mods that have gone viral online over the last several days. With the full game now out in the wild, the Lady Dimitrescu creations are bound to get even creative.
Resident Evil Village is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
