Weapons play a central part in Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Each weapon is vastly unique compared to the others, and upgrading them only serves to further this effect. Every weapon becomes immensely powerful over time, some increasing their effective range of effect and unique gimmicks. While some weapons such as the Pixelizer make a return, there are plenty of brand new toys of destruction to add to Ratchet's growing collection.
In the midst of destroying just about anything and everything in Rachet's path, players will come across two types of currency; Bolts and Raritanium. Bolts will drop from just about everything: boxes, crates, enemies, explosives, the list goes on. Raritanium on the other hand is a bit more tricky to come by. In the Ratchet and Clank PS4 remake, players easily collected Raritanium in the hundreds and thousands but now, they number far fewer. Raritanium is found in various hidden locations but luckily, the area map will show each cluster's general location. Also, only enemies of the larger and more dangerous type drop Raritanium in Rift Apart compared to its predecessors. These two collectible items are essential, so collecting as much as possible early on will make buying and upgrading weapons much smoother. Here's how that works.
Even in another dimension, Ms. Zurkon is up to her usual business ventures dealing in weapons and all things lethal. Once players have enough bolts, they can buy new weapons from Ms. Zurkon at just about every new location. Leveling up Ratchet/Rivet might also affect this, so whenever they attain a new level, be sure to check the weapon shop. After players have purchased a new weapon, take it out for a spin. Each weapon has its own personal level and the only way to increase that level is to use that weapon as much as possible.
The more enemies felled by Ratchets arsenal, the faster the weapons will level up, so playing on higher difficulties can really get that ball rolling. While it's unsure how much experience each enemy in specific adds to the pool, revisiting old locations is easily done just in case players might have missed anything or anyone. Aside from mission bosses tied to the main quest, there are other powerful enemies loafing about at certain locations; eliminating them nets a ton of EXP.
The second tab at Ms. Zurkon is for weapon upgrades. Each weapon has some available after the initial purchase, but the really good perks only appear after the weapon has gone up a level or two. These special upgrades are golden, and the only way to obtain them is to unlock all the surrounding upgrades. Use any Raritanium on hand and nab those upgrades whenever they are available. Then, observe each weapon's performance soar through the roof and decimate anything in the hero's path.
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is available on PlayStation.
