One of the stars of Shazam! Fury of the Gods has begun hyping up the action scenes for the upcoming sequel. Shazam! was one of the few recent hits for Warner Bros. with their DC content, especially after disappointing reactions to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the theatrical cut of Justice League. And with Black Adam right around the corner, a lot is riding on the Shazam! franchise's ability to maintain its quality as it moves forward.
The first Shazam! was released in 2019, with Zachary Levi starring as the titular hero in his heroic form, and Asher Angel as his adolescent persona Billy Batson. The film did well with critics and audiences, with many enjoying the lighter tone and lack of seriousness, especially after the dark and monotone Zack Snyder films in the DCEU. Much praise went to director David. F. Sandberg, as well as the performances from Levi and young actor Jack Dylan Grazer, who played Shazam's friend, Freddy, in the movie.
Grazer recently hyped up the "unbelievable" action scenes of Shazam! Fury of the Gods during an interview with The Indian Express. While speaking about reprising his role and enjoying all the returning cast members in the sequel, he spoke about the action scenes in the movie being particularly special. Read his full thoughts below:
“I am super-excited. I’m shooting it right now in Atlanta. It’s going great. It’s so much fun. And it’s so amazing with the original cast. They’re just the greatest people ever. Such a fun story and it’s funny as heck. The action is unbelievable. This time we’ve got Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zeigler, who’s in the new West Side Story. I am working with a lot of great, talented people.”
Grazer was out promoting his most current film, Pixar's Luca, when the interview was done. In Luca, Grazer voices a sea monster named Alberto Scorfano, who, along with his best friend, disguise themselves as humans so they can meet the denizens of a coastal Italian town. Grazer is best known for his work in both Shazam! and the most recent adaptation of Stephen King's It.
The original Shazam! was no slouch when it came to action set-pieces, but it is exciting to hear about even better fight scenes in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Between this and the news about the costumes having been upgraded and looking vastly better than the original, this sequel has gotten off to an excellent start. And with the director and original cast returning, including Levi, Angel, and Grazer, all the pieces are there for a great follow-up to the original film.
