Brooklyn 99 Season 8 Trailer: Jake & Holt Are Back For One Last Ride

The first trailer for Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 is here. It hasn't been long since Fox originally pulled the plug from the cop-centric sitcom, but now, it is officially ending with NBC announcing that it will wrap up its run after its upcoming outing. Unlike its previous unexpected cancelation, however, this time, the show makers are able to craft a satisfying finale for fans.

Premiering in 2013, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has built a loyal following over the years. Its events were kicked off by the arrival of Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) in Brooklyn's 99th Precinct to be its newest captain. Initially, there was tension between him and his detectives who had been used to a more relaxed place of work. But case after case, they eventually developed a bond that goes beyond their professional relationship. There are so many things to look forward to coming into Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8. That includes seeing Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiag0 (Melissa Fumero) tackling their new role as parents.

This and more has been teased in the first official trailer for Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Shared by NBC, the network has officially started promoting the final year of the beloved sitcom. Using a mix of old and new footage, the clip which clocks in at almost two minutes highlights the nearing end of the 99th Precinct — at least according to Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio). Interestingly, the marketing is using the tagline "One. Last. Ride." which is a quote famously used to promote Furious 7. It's uncertain if this is indicative of the overall narrative for Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8. The trailer barely reveals any serial story except for Jake and Amy's new life as parents. However, the opening with Boyle stands out as it seems to imply that he and Jake are eventually going to part ways. Whether that means that one of them is leaving the 99th Precinct or they just won't be able to be partnered as much is uncertain. However, it's also worth noting that the foodie detective has a penchant for being overly dramatic, so this might be just for a gag. Regardless, it's a commentary on the sitcom's nearing end.

As expected, Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 seems adamant about delivering on its signature comedy base on the trailer. Fumero previously said that the finale will be satisfying for fans. But aside from its humor, there's also an expectation for it to address the controversy surrounding the Black Lives Movement and the police brutality against minorities since the show has been dubbed as a propaganda tool for those in uniform. This forced the writers to rework the whole season to address the matter. Fortunately, it won't be too long before the show comes back for its last year.
