Mark Was Secretly The Love Is Blind Villain (Not Jessica)

Jessica Batten from Love Is Blind got dragged for how she treated Mark Cuevas on the show, but he was no angel. The decade age gap (not to mention the evident pursuit of another contestant, Matt Barnett) gave viewers the impression that Jessica wasn't loyal or faithful. That can all go out the window as it takes two to tango, and Mark isn’t exactly innocent either. We shouldn't put all of the blame on Jessica here.

Mark and Jessica’s ten-year age gap was a hot topic throughout Love Is Blind season 1. While in the pods, Jessica was torn between Barnett and Mark. Once Barnett was off the market after choosing Amber, Jessica went with her runner-up option, Mark. Throughout the season, Jessica tried to establish a long-lasting connection with Mark despite their age gap and her underlying feelings for Barnett. After some notable actions and a few memorable comments here and there, Jessica ultimately said, “I don’t” at the altar. She left without changing her last name.

Fans felt that Jessica had strung Mark along the entire time. It seemed very clear that Mark from Love Is Blind was head over heels in love with her and she was only with him for the sake of being in a relationship. After further review of the couple’s timeline, Mark wasn’t too innocent and was even unfaithful to Jessica, despite the impression he gave viewers initially. Mark, a personal trainer, had been seeing some of his clients while dating Jessica. Fans were commenting on social media that he was also seeing Love Is Blind's Lauren "LC" Chamblin. When this news dropped, Jessica commented, “Wow. News to me, I only know about one.”

Mark was also the type of person who came on very strong. Jessica was clearly not into the relationship and even tried to leave the show. In an interview, she commented on how she had a lot going on at the time of filming. Her dog became severely ill, and knowing she wasn’t going to go through with the wedding in the end (but still needing to plan one) caused a lot of stress for her at the time. That being said, Mark was trying to downplay Jessica’s feelings. He was trying and force the relationship into something that it would never become. His insistence that they were perfect for one another continued despite Jessica’s body language, which told a different story. Even when she clearly didn’t want to be with him, he would try and convince her otherwise.

In light of Mark’s unfaithfulness and pushiness, he should be looked at differently. One thing that is true about Jessica is that she was honest throughout the entire season. The Love Is Blind star was open about her past, her concerns, and still having feelings for Barnett. The age gap was always in the back of her mind and she made Mark fully aware of that. While he was trying to convince Jessica that he was her perfect match, he blinded her with his secret hookups that were occurring behind the scenes. All that being said, Mark shouldn’t fool anyone and Jessica absolutely deserves better. She made the right call to walk down the aisle by herself.
