Doctor Who season 13 released its first trailer and it confirms the series will return in late 2021. Doctor Who is among the world's longest running science fiction shows and it has starred a slew of actors in the role of The Doctor thanks to regeneration - an ability of The Doctor's that allows them to transform into an entirely new person when near death. Most recently, the 13th incarnation of The Doctor is played by Jodie Whittaker, who took over the role from Peter Capaldi in 2017 and is the first woman to play The Doctor.
Since Doctor Who has been airing for decades, it's had to find ways of reinventing itself besides just swapping out its lead actor. During the 13th Doctor's tenure, that has meant revealing The Doctor as the Timeless Child - a mythical figure in Gallifrey's history and, it's revealed, the originator of the the Time Lords' regenerative ability. The revelation has huge implications for not just the future but also the past of Doctor Who as it also implies The Doctor's personal history stretches much further back than William Hartnell's First Doctor. Needless to say, it's the sort of radical change to Doctor Who canon that hasn't pleased everyone, and in its new trailer, it appears The Doctor is still keeping it a secret from her friends.
