Warning! Major spoilers for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6 ahead!
Batman and Catwoman's relationship has been rocky over the years, but he had a chance to get it right in the world of Fortnite. Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6 reveals the choice that this iconic couple is given. It also reveals that the Dark Knight makes the wrong one, depending on how it is perceived.
Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6 is the finale of a crossover that has taken Batman to the world of the popular video game. Not only has he found victory, he has also unlocked several of the mysteries of the island. New lore has been added that was previously unknown, such as how DC's world is connected to Fortnite's. After several fights and struggles, Batman has finally found a way home, but he has a big choice to make regarding his current relationship with Catwoman.
This comic comes from the creative team of Donald Mustard, Christos Gage, Christian Duce, John Kalisz, and Andworld Design. It provides Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne with the ability to finally go home after being abandoned by Deathstroke in the previous issue. However, before they go, Selina points out that staying on the island could be the best thing for their relationship as she isn't sure what going home means for them as a couple. Ultimately, Batman makes a decision - and it's one that seemingly tears the two apart.
When asked why they HAVE to go back, Batman says he believes that it's the right thing - that he has responsibilities. This all boils down to him saying that it "feels like who I am" - which seems to be a roundabout way of saying, "because I'm Batman." Selina genuinely seems to believe that the two of them belong together and that Fortnite is a means of having that. She is afraid of finding out their actual history together - which she has every reason to be afraid of. Though Catwoman agrees with him to go home after he lays out his reasoning, it doesn't take long to realize that where their future together is concerned, this is the WRONG decision.
After crossing over and returning to Gotham, all of their memories return, depicted within a splash page that captures their history over many decades of comics - including Bruce's proposal that led to the controversial wedding that never fully came to fruition, as Selina didn't show up to the altar. Batman and Catwoman's relationship has been on and off for years, and this new look at it just provides another look at how Batman's responsibilities continue to tear the couple apart. Selina said yes and then changed her mind, because she realized that as long as Bruce is Batman, he can't simply be happy as Bruce. Therefore, he can't be a happily married man to her, because she'd be taking him away from the world that needs him. It turns out, Selina was right: Bruce can't give up being Batman - not for anyone, including her.
This series has shown what a great team Batman and Catwoman are. They fight in sync and are naturally drawn to each other. However, Bruce's constant need to save the day will seemingly always pull him further and further away from his love, no matter how much he care for her. He made the decision to go home and Selina trusted him, but she ended up being right. They may not be married to other people, but in some ways, they might as well be. Fortnite was definitely Batman and Catwoman's chance at a happy ending together, but he didn't take it.
