A gameplay trailer for Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons boasts fresh details about the story and new features, while also confirming the expansion will go live sometime in February of next year. Though developer ArenaNet kept its promise to showcase End of Dragons on July 27, the latest news update comes a few weeks after the expansion's delay. The studio originally planned to release the content in late 2021, but pandemic-induced challenges meant more time was needed to fully see End of Dragons through to completion.
Both ArenaNet and Guild Wars 2 have experienced a rough couple of years, beginning with layoffs that hit the studio in early 2019 following revenue losses. The MMO's long-awaited Steam launch seemed primed to provide a much-needed boost; it even boasted a November 2020 release window at one point. However, ArenaNet's focus on End of Dragons derailed these plans, leaving the upcoming expansion to assume the role of Guild Wars 2's supposed last hope. In terms of public perception, then, the DLC is carrying quite the weight on its back.
As promised, ArenaNet has let loose new information concerning Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. During a stream dedicated to the third expansion, the developer showcased a brand-new gameplay trailer. The video further teases the End of Dragons narrative, then closes with the reveal of a February 2022 launch window. Preorders are live now for all three versions of the DLC, too, with bonuses that include the Flame Serpent Weapon Chest, Shing Jea Mosaic Cape, and the Prodigy of Shing Jea Tittle. End of Dragons' Standard Edition bears a $29.99 price tag; meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition, complete with a Cantha Raptor Skin and Shing Jea Dragon Boat Skiff Skin, costs $54.99. For the price of $79.99, fans can grab the Ultimate Edition, which features all of the Deluxe Edition's contents and 4,000 gems.
The February due date for End of Dragons gives lapsed players and Guild of Wars 2 newcomers plenty of time to dive into the MMO before the next big update arrives. And as the game's third paid expansion, End of Dragons should prove to be the most exciting content drop to date.
Guild Wars 2's first expansion, Heart of Thorns, launched in Fall 2015 and dropped players into a new storyline involving a jungle dragon. Path of Fire went live in 2017 as a second DLC offering, one equipped with a separate region filled with multiple open-world locales.
Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons is due to release on an unspecified date in February 2022.
