The cast of Netflix's Outer Banks has taken on another massive challenge—attempting to recap the entirety of season 1 in just 30 seconds. Season 2 of the mystery series premieres on July 30. Set on the picturesque coastline of North Carolina, Outer Banks follows a group of friends embarking on a suspense-filled treasure hunt. Led by John B. (Chase Stokes), his rag-tag gang of friends, known as the Pogues, are on a mission to discover a bounty of $400 million worth of gold.
Season 1 left viewers with a major cliffhanger as John B. and his love interest Sarah (Madelyn Cline) escape the OBX on a ship headed for the Bahamas. Their understanding is that Sarah's evil father Ward (Charles Esten) shipped the gold to the islands. They are not only looking to find the treasure but are also escaping town as John B. was framed for the murder of a local sheriff. The couple hits a tumultuous storm, leading their friends JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey), and Pope (Jonathan Daviss) assuming they died in the choppy waters as the treasure hunt took a turn for the deadly.
Ahead of the Outer Banks season 2 premiere, the show's stars got together via video chat for Entertainment Weekly to attempt to summarize season 1 in 30 seconds. They explain the setting, the Pogues and their higher-privileged enemies the Kooks, and the major plot points in just half a minute. With only three seconds left, Cline speeds through the season-ending cliffhanger. "Oh my god, basically we end up on a boat and we're sinking and everybody thinks we're dead," Cline says. Check out the full video below.
Outside of just the treasure hunt, John B. and his friends are also on a mission to avenge his father's death. His father started searching for the mysterious gold before he was killed. John B. discovered during Outer Banks season 1 that Ward is responsible for the untimely death of Big John. Not only that, but Sarah's brother Rafe (Drew Starkey) is also the one who killed the town sheriff. Rafe is clearly more than willing to let a working-class Pogue like John B. take the fall for his massive mistake.
Though the season 1 video summary from the cast isn't able to cover all of these points, they still do an admirable job breaking down the most important storylines and building anticipation for the new episodes. Outer Banks season 2 will be filled with more dramatic plot points, unrequited love stories, and a whole lot of searching for rumored riches. However this time around, the gang will leave the swamplands of OBX and take their search to the Bahamas. Thanks to the success of season 1, Netflix can count on plenty of viewers tuning in for Outer Banks season 2.
