Eboni K. Williams, newcomer to The Real Housewives of New York, refuses to take the blame for the decline of the show's ratings, although fans continue to blame her on social media. Eboni joined the show this season as Leah's friend, and is working her way toward getting to know the rest of the women. A majority of Eboni's storyline has been focused around educating the women about Black history, and all the struggles Black people have faced, and continue to face, in America. There have been different levels of receptiveness on the topic, with some members of the cast fully engaged in the conversation, while others would rather focus on lighter more fun topics.
Many fans have been surprised by longtime cast member Sonja Morgan's response to the conversation. They say Sonja understands that the topic is uncomfortable, but that it is necessary to have in order to move forward in their relationship with Eboni. Leah prides herself on being progressive and miles ahead of the other women in her understanding of the current climate. In the earlier half of the season, Luann and Eboni feuded. Since that clash, she has been very receptive to what Eboni has to say, but she has expressed she is tired of constantly hearing about Eboni's message. Ramona, on the other hand, has been completely unwilling to take part in the conversation and refuses to understand why it needs to happen.
Eboni is now refusing to take responsibility for a decline in ratings for season 13, after fans throw the blame her way on social media for speaking about race too much. Rather than putting the blame on herself, Eboni shifts the blame onto the producers, saying they are the ones who decide what makes it onto the show. Eboni doesn't understand why race conversations would decrease viewership, as RHONY has tackled many other hard topics in the past. She says race should not have a bigger impact than the other topics discussed on the show throughout the seasons, such as mental health, divorce, bankruptcy, alcoholism, and so many other hard topics.
Fans online are campaigning for Bravo to let Eboni go because she turns every episode into a history lesson and a political debate. It seems as though the cast and the audience are open to the conversation, but not during every episode. Sources told TMZ that the cast is tired of the topic being brought up every time the group gets together, and the fans agree, explaining the show is meant to be fun and lighthearted with some drama sprinkled in every so often. Eboni says she only brings up race issues on the show as a response to what the other ladies are bringing to the situation. She feels it is her responsibility to continue speaking on the topic, not only to educate the women on the show, but also educate the people who are watching.
With the low ratings this season, there have been a lot of rumors surrounding who will be returning for season 14. The rumors circulating say that original housewife Ramona Singer is the one who will not be asked back, however, it seems like fans have other plans. No one is sure what is going on with season 14 in general, let alone who is cast. It has been stated that filming the reunion has been postponed, and in response to that, the filming of season 14 itself has been pushed back. No one wants to see The Real Housewives of New York end, and what the low ratings this season have shown is that something needs to happen to get the viewership back.
