Julia Trubkina quickly lost her fan-favorite status, as her and Brandon Gibbs’ 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? plotline is largely leaving viewers bored. The married couple has finally achieved independence and moved off of Brandon’s parents' farm after his parents Betty and Ron made Julia’s life difficult. However, many viewers have lost interest in Brandon and Julia’s story since their plotline doesn’t appear to be moving forward despite them finally moving.
During the 90 Day Fiancé season 8 Tell-All, Julia saw her previous fan-favorite status plummet after she admitted to not being forced into doing farm work but rather choosing to do it. The Russian dancer was also criticized for making judgmental comments about plastic surgery. Her Happily Ever After plotline with Brandon has so far continued the couple’s season 8 storyline, as Julia continued to clash with her in-laws. Fans have called her unrealistic for her expectations about life in the United States, though they have also called out Brandon for being immature and too dependent for his age. Overall, their storyline has received a lukewarm reception at best from viewers.
One fan took to the r/90dayfiance Reddit to open up a discussion about the couple. “Brandon and Julia are the most BORING couple this season I hope they aren't recasted. You can tell production are trying to feed Julia lines and she's missing the mark every time. Brandon has the personality of a piece of white bread he's so dull. Without Ron and Betty they have no storyline,” the user wrote. The post quickly received attention as many viewers agreed that they are bored of seeing the couple cycle through the same drama.
One common complaint is that many of the Happily Ever After plotlines feel forced. Brandon and Julia often appear as though they are delivering lines and that their arguments and discussions have been scripted by someone else. Viewers would prefer to see genuine interactions instead. Another reoccurring issue is that the couple’s storyline isn’t moving anywhere. Many viewers want to see Brandon and Julia progress in their relationship and grow as a couple. However, they have spent dozens of episodes getting off of the family farm only to immediately get in an argument when they moved. Many viewers are also frustrated by the immaturity of the couple. Though they are both in their late 20s, Brandon and Julia have been accused of behaving like teenagers. Others are simply unimpressed with Brandon’s seemingly bland personality. “He's the white bread with the crusts cut off by his mommy,” one viewer observed. Others added that all of the excitement in their plot came from Betty and Ron.
Though Brandon and Julia are leaving many viewers unimpressed, they aren’t the only Happily Ever After couple to be called out. Viewers are disappointed that the cast featured so many reoccurring couples because this has caused issues that storylines are stuck in the same place and not progressing. This creates content that is stale and repetitive. Like Brandon and Julia, the Potthast family plotline has been called out by fans for airing what appears to be scripted drama. Viewers doubt the authenticity of many of the current plots and have called for future seasons of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? to feature new couples and fresh content.
90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? streams Fridays on Discovery+ and airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on TLC.
