A new clip for Marvel's What If...? sees Doctor Strange journeying to the temple of Cagliostro in search of a spell that can break a point in time. The animated series is based on the Marvel Comics anthology stories of the same name in which alternate timelines see iconic moments and characters undergo different journeys. The Disney+ show asks the question of what if things happened differently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including T'Challa being abducted by the Ravagers as a kid and becoming the Star-Lord in favor of Peter Quill as well as Peggy Carter taking the supersoldier serum during World War II and becoming Captain Peggy Carter while Steve Rogers fights alongside her in the Iron Man-esque suit of armor named HYDRA Stomper.
Benedict Cumberbatch returns to voice Doctor Strange in What If...?, making him one of the large list of MCU stars reprising their roles for the series, some of whom include Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Chadwick Boseman in his final performance as T'Challa. Since its release, the series has received the same level of acclaim as fellow Disney+ MCU titles WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. Development is already underway on season 2 of What If...?, which will consist of nine episodes instead of 10 as season 1 has.
Ahead of the episode's premiere on Disney+ this week, IGN has revealed a new clip for What If...? episode 4. The clip features Doctor Strange journeying to the temple of the sorcerer Cagliostro in search of a spell that can break an absolute point in time, only to meet the cheeky librarian of the books of the sorcerer. Plot details were previously being kept under wraps for the next episode of What If...?, though a recent teaser confirmed that the episode would see the car accident from the Doctor Strange film changed with Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer losing her life in the accident rather than Strange losing his hands. The new clip certainly factors well into this story, with Strange's search for the time-bending spell stemming from his turning to magic in an effort to bring her back. However, the new clip continues to keep it a secret as to how this will put him on a path to become the evil Doctor Strange Supreme or open the gateway to allow the villainous variant into his universe.
It is interesting to note Strange's personality in the new clip for What If...?. Having lost the love of his life, this would be a time in which the neurosurgeon would feel at his lowest and as indicated in Doctor Strange, he is capable of displaying heartbreak, and yet the clip finds him still cracking wise and falling into the same joke surrounding his name from the 2016 film. The answers to all of these questions are right around the corner as episode 4 premieres on Disney+ tomorrow.
