Halo Fan Celebrates 20 Years With Impressive Montage Video

One talented Halo fan is celebrating the franchise’s 20th anniversary with an impressive music video, and it’s even caught the attention of developer 343 Industries. Way back in 2001, the original Halo: Combat Evolved was released on PC and Xbox, introducing gamers to the now iconic Master Chief and revolutionizing how first-person shooters work on consoles.

Since then, the Halo series has spawned eight main titles (including the side stories in Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach), two remasters, an updated rerelease in the form of The Master Chief Collection, two Halo Wars real-time strategy spin-offs, various mobile games, and countless tie-in novels and other related media - as well as inspiring equally popular fan works like the long-running web series Red Vs. Blue. In the build-up to Halo’s 20th anniversary later this year, Microsoft and 343 Industries are going all out in promoting the monumental sci-fi shooter franchise, and it looks like the fans are even joining in on the festivities.

Yesterday, Reddit user FlandersNed posted a moving music video montage to the Halo subreddit, featuring various landscapes throughout the Halo universe and how they've changed throughout the series. Set to MUTO’s 'Through The Fog,' this video took FlandersNed two years to put together and utilizes captured footage from various fans and members of the franchise's modding community, who've pulled off such feats as putting a Call of Duty inspired Zombies mode in Halo 3. Not only that, but a member of 343 Industries commented on the video under the handle of 343_farn, saying that it was “good stuff.”

Halo’s 20th anniversary isn’t the only thing fans are celebrating in 2021, as 343 Industries is finally getting ready to launch Halo Infinite after a lengthy and troubled development cycle sometime this Holiday season. While Infinite was first met with an icy reception when it was initially shown off last July, excitement is now building thanks to a recent multiplayer beta test earlier this month, which featured vastly improved graphics and new weapons. While 343 has yet to give an official release date for Halo Infinite, recent leaks suggest that the game could be coming out in November - which coincides with the release of the first Halo title way back in 2001.

FlandersNed’s Halo music video montage is surprisingly quiet for a series known for explosive gunplay and large-scale interstellar warfare, but it serves as a moving showcase of just how far the long-running franchise has evolved over many years and numerous console generations. As fans look back fondly over Halo’s past 20 years, they will finally get to see the next step in this evolution when Halo Infinite launches on the Xbox Series X later this year.
