Warning: SPOILERS for The Suicide Squad.
Writer/director James Gunn shares one fan’s horrifyingly accurate cosplay of Weasel from The Suicide Squad. Gunn’s version of Task Force X saw Colonel Ricky Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) joined by some of DC’s most obscure villains, including Peacemaker (John Cena), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), King Shark (Slyvester Stallone), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), T.D.K. (Nathan Fillion), Javelin (Flula Borg), Weasel, and many more. The bulk of The Suicide Squad’s new members don’t even make it to the film’s title card.
At the beginning of the DC Extended Universe’s R-rated blockbuster, the audience is introduced to one of the two teams that make up Task Force X—which is sent to the island of Corto Maltese to eliminate all traces of Project Starfish. On Rick Flag’s very unlucky team is Weasel, an anthropomorphic creature Harley Quinn assumes is a werewolf. After his disturbing presence rattles Blackguard (Pete Davidson), Ricky Flag reveals Weasel is harmless despite having “killed twenty-seven children." Unfortunately for Weasel, he’s seemingly the first character to perish after not being able to swim. Irrespective of his limited screen time, Weasel has become of the film’s most talked-about characters.
James Gunn recently shared Rhylee Passfield’s homemade Weasel cosplay on Instagram. With bulging eyes and a fursuit, the costume is accurate, unnerving, and difficult to unsee. Check it out below:

Gunn is hugely active on social media, often answering fan questions and sharing behind-the-scenes photos, videos, and trivia. For example, he once revealed that Bloom County’s Bill The Cat was the inspiration for his version of Weasel—which he crafted to be as strange as possible. In the comics, Weasel is sometimes depicted as merely a man in a furry suit, while other times, the character is more feral. Gunn and, in turn, Passfield certainly leaned into the latter with the cosplay prompting reactions from Daniela Melchior and Flula Borg.
Weasel is portrayed by Sean Gunn in The Suicide Squad. James Gunn’s brother also does the motion capture for Rocket Raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise/the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although Gunn’s character is presumed dead at the film's beginning, its post-credits scene showed that he survived nearly drowning. That said, Weasel could appear again in HBO Max’s Peacemaker spinoff series or any of the other DC projects Gunn might helm.
