20th Century Studios unveils a new clip for Vacation Friends featuring John Cena joking about his interest in a foursome in the comedy movie. Alongside Cena, the cast for the film include Free Guy's Lil Rel Howery, Insecure's Yvonne Orji, Palm Springs' Meredith Hagner, Greenland's Andrew Bachelor, Greenleaf's Lynn Whitfield and Watchmen's Robert Wisdom. The film centers on a couple (Orji, Howery) who become casual friends with a wild couple (Hagner, Cena) while on vacation and are mortified to find the duo crash their wedding.
Development on Vacation Friends first began in early 2014 when Chris Pratt and Anna Faris signed on to star while Steve Pink was set to direct. However, the project would slowly crawl to its current state as Ice Cube signed on to replace Pratt the following year and Faris departing only for the cast to start from scratch with Cena, Howery and Hagner in December 2019 and Clay Tarver taking over to direct. Following a shift in distributors from 20th Century Studios to Hulu and a delay in production due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the film's release is finally right around the corner and the former is looking to build anticipation for the comedy.
With just over a week remaining until the film's debut on Hulu, 20th Century Studios has released a new clip for Vacation Friends. The video sees Cena's Ron crashing a golf game between Howery's Marcus and members of his wedding party and cracking a joke about being involved in a foursome. Check out the funny clip below:
Though some may still associate the name John Cena with the WWE and the action movie genre, the past few years have seen the superstar really come into his own in the world of comedy. Beginning with his supporting role in Amy Schumer's Trainwreck, Cena has consistently delivered hilarious performances in a variety of comedy subgenres including the coming-of-age teen sex comedy Blockers and the newly released DC Extended Universe action comedy The Suicide Squad. With both his DCEU and Fast & Furious debuts already proving to be hits for the star, his return to the raunchier world in Vacation Friends is certainly looking to keep that ball rolling and the new clip offers a nice glimpse at what audiences can expect from his character in the film.
The first trailer for Vacation Friends promised plenty of outrageous antics from Cena and Hagner, but the new clip also shows the former's ability to be just as effective with a quick-yet-subtle line delivery as he is with an emphatic one. With the film also offering a unique twist on the odd couple formula with its four central characters, it will also be interesting to see how Orji, Howery, Cena and Hagner all play off of each other on screen. The wait is almost over as Vacation Friends hits Hulu on August 27.
