Warning! Spoilers for Wonder Woman #777 ahead!
The DC Universe spans far and wide, building out into an ever-expanding Multiverse which is home to places like Earth-11, where in Wonder Woman #777 Diana stumbles upon a version of the Justice League quite different than her own. The Justice Guild of Earth-11 may look similar to the Justice League fans know and love, but there is one key difference between the two: their genders are swapped.
In Wonder Woman's recent run, she's found herself fighting through what seemed to be the afterlife (or Valhalla); making allies in Asgard; saving her fellow Greek gods, including her father, and returning them to Olympus; navigating worlds from other mythologies; and hunting down the rogue Roman god Janus, who seeks to destroy reality itself. In every realm she lands in her costume and the art style change along with her surroundings. She has to face new challenges in every realm as she continues on her main quest of tracking and taking down Janus. Now, just as Diana thinks her journey will finally bring her home, she and her comrades find themselves on Earth-11, face-to-face with the Justice Guild.
It's obvious that Wonder Woman is expecting to enter Janus' portal and come out the other side on Earth-0, but when she steps into the Hall of Justice, she quickly realizes she isn't where she thought she was. Instead of the main continuity's male-centric Justice League, the welcoming committee is replaced with Earth-11's Justice Guild, which is made up of their gender swapped counterparts. From Superwoman (Kent), to Batwoman (Bryce Wayne) to Star Sapphire (Carol Jordan), to Aquawoman, a female Flash, and more, they've got some serious woman-power. Unfortunately though, this also means that in this world Wonder Woman is Wonder Man... and he's not such a good guy. While the Justice Guild is happy to jump in and help Diana fight Janus; their genocidal ex-team member, Dane of Elysium, is more interested in joining her. Luckily, the two gods are no match for Diana and her new allies as they band together to drive Janus away and recapture the traitorous Wonder Man.
It's important to note this isn't the first time Earth-11 has been introduced in DC comics, but the creative team behind Wonder Woman #777 (Michael W. Conrad, Becky Cloonan, Emanuela Lupacchino, Wade Von Grawbadger, Jordie Belaire, and Pat Brosseau) really give it and its heroes the spotlight in this issue. Having an Earth in the Multiverse where all of DC's heroes are gender swapped is exciting enough on its own, but it's especially refreshing because historically the superhero world has been so saturated with, and dominated by, men. On Earth-11 (which, by the way, likewise perceives itself as the Prime Earth) women take the lead, and they seem to be doing a good job of it.
Having Diana accidentally end up in this reality also leaves room for some subtle social commentary from the writers. When Wonder Man is attacking the Guild after being freed from his prison by Janus, he starts talking about Wonder Woman as a "frump of a woman" and the "weaker version" of himself. It takes almost no time at all for Diana's friend, Siegfried (aka Sigurd), to criticize Wonder Man on his "outdated rhetoric." All in all, this little detour with the gender-swapped Justice League proves fruitful for multiple reasons: both as a way to continue to call out societal structures surrounding gender equality, and for the new allies it provides Wonder Woman with on her journey to protect the whole of reality from Janus' evil ambitions.
