Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The 9 Worst Things Jake & Amy Did To Each Other

At the core of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and all the fun and humor that came with the sitcom was Amy and Jake's love story. The two of them went from colleagues to friends to lovers over the course of the show with lots of hilarious games and pranks along the way. While Amy was the serious one of the pair, she sometimes joined in on Jake's silliness and by the end of the series, their characters were so similar that sometimes Amy was the one who initiated their crazy bets and games.

Although their relationship flowed smoothly most of the time and was defined by mutual respect and kindness, there were times when they treated each other terribly. This was often during the infamous heists or as part of their bets, but there were also rare occasions when the couple hurt each other over something genuinely serious.

9 Jake Stalked Amy On Her Date

While Amy was on a date in "M.E. Time," she got a call from Jake with information on the Nightingale Strangler. He described the perp to her and the description fit her date perfectly, including the things he was last seen wearing, which was the exact outfit he was wearing on their date. Amy freaked out until she realized Jake was messing with her.

The whole thing was an honest joke by Jake, who was actually on a date himself in the same restaurant. However, it interfered with Amy's date and personal time, all in the name of a joke. It was also one of the earliest indicators of Jake's crush on her, even though he was mostly in denial about it at the time.

8 Jake Took Her On A Deliberately Horrid Date

In the first season, Jake and Amy had a bet going to see who would catch more perps. If Amy won, Jake would give her his car and if Jake won, Amy would go on a date with him. Jake won the bet and guaranteed that it would be the worst date ever.

While he followed through on his promise by buying her a terrible dress to wear on the date and embarrassing her, they both had a good time when they ended up on a stakeout and pranked some criminals into thinking they were a couple. It was also a defining moment for Jake and Amy's relationship on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

7 Amy Flirted With Jake While She Was With Teddy

Although Jake denied having feelings for Amy, he finally admitted it to her at the end of season 1 and when he got back from his undercover mission. At the time, she was dating Teddy and told him that nothing could happen between them.

However, during the Jimmy Jab games, Jake kept flirting with her and Amy flirted back even though she was still dating Teddy and knew how Jake felt about her. The innocent flirting was terribly misleading for Jake and left him with conflicted emotions as he was trying to get Rosa's friend's number at the time to move on from Amy.

6 Jake Brought Teddy Along On A Trip To Surprise Amy

During "The Road Trip," Jake and Amy were assigned prison transfer duty and he invited Sophia. Amy commented on the romantic gesture and said Teddy had never done anything like that even though he was one of Amy's major romantic partners on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake secretly invited Teddy along as a surprise, not knowing Amy wanted to break up with him.

Jake's intentions were sweet, but it was rather intrusive of him to interfere in her relationship. His interference resulted in an awkward breakup between Teddy and Amy, which led to the revelation that Amy had feelings for Jake at some point, causing strain in his relationship with Sophia as well.

5 Jake Fake-Proposed To Win The Heist

During a heist in "Halloween III," Jake and Holt both left Amy out of their teams because Holt believed she'd betray him for Jake and Jake believed she'd betray him for Holt. They were both dismissive of her when she told them she was hurt until they realized she was the only one with a major clue leading to the prize. Both of them tried gaining her favor through flattery and Jake even pretended to propose.

The Halloween heists often brought out the worst in all the characters, and this one was no different. Jake and Amy's relationship was only a couple of weeks old at the time, so she never took his attempted proposal seriously. However, it was rather manipulative of Jake to use such a serious step in a relationship as a way to secure a win, even though Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans love Jake's playfulness most times. Jake eventually did propose, and ironically it was during another heist in season 5.

4 Amy Lied About Being Pregnant

During the season 6 heist in "Cinco de Mayo," Holt teamed up with Amy while Jake worked with Terry. The year's heist prize was Scully's medical bracelet which Amy had possession of towards the end after a series of betrayals between the different partners. When she tried to run away with it, Jake tased her through a pen he gifted her a while back and she lied that she was pregnant to distract him from taking the bracelet.

It was no surprise that everyone betrayed each other during the heist, but Amy's lie in an effort to make sure she won took things a little too far. Jake seemed genuinely excited about the news until Holt revealed that it was a lie. Given their previous argument over having a child, it was a sensitive issue to joke about.

3 Jake Didn't Tell Amy That He Didn't Want Kids

One of the biggest blows of Jake and Amy's relationship came when he told her he didn't want to have kids in the episode "Casecation." Amy was surprised and upset, especially because the decision seemed to come out of the blue and he'd never given any indication of not wanting children one day.

Children are an important discussion for any relationship, especially between a married couple so it was worrying that Jake didn't say anything until after they were married. Amy was even prepared to end their relationship and start over with someone else because she wanted to have kids, showing how serious the issue was for her.

2 Amy Forced Jake Into A Structured Debate About Kids

After Jake revealed his stance against having kids, Amy insisted on the two of them having a structured debate to resolve the issue and decide whether they would have kids or not. The debate was moderated by Holt, then Kelvin, and later Gail一the vice president of the debate club. Even though Jake was bringing up valid concerns in support of his argument, everyone kept dismissing and laughing off his points一Amy included.

It was understandable that Amy felt the need to resolve the issue straight away, but considering the sensitivity of the matter, bringing in so many people into the conversation wasn't the best way to handle something that affected them personally. The debate only resulted in a bigger fight between them and was one of the few things different between Jake and Amy on Brooklyn Nine-Nine

1 Amy Lied That Jake Was In A Coma

The final two episodes of the series had the Nine-Nine's last heist and it was just as over the top and funny as the previous ones with plenty of betrayals to go around. Jake planned to make the heist his epic, final goodbye to the precinct since he was quitting the force and Amy was helping him. However, she was upset when he refused to tell her where the real heist prize was so she pranked him into believing his fireworks exploded and sent him into a coma for several years.

Part of Amy's ruse was her lying that she got back together with Teddy while Jake was in a coma, which distressed Jake more than anything else because of their history. Although the prank was funny, Jake was genuinely hurt for a little while when he believed that Amy had moved on without him.
