Kylie Jenner Discloses Ethnic Diversity in Kylie Cosmetics

Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kylie Jenner took on the Pull Up For Change social media challenge and shared details about her employees at Kylie Cosmetics, claiming that 13% of the company’s staff is black. 2020 has been a busy year for news concerning the Kardashian-Jenner finances, ranging from Kendall Jenner wanting to flip houses with Scott Disick to Kylie no longer being a billionaire. With the added challenges of dealing with a global health pandemic while also attempting to sell a luxury lifestyle during a financial recession, the Kardashian-Jenner clan is once again being required to adapt its public image and refocus its business endeavors.

As the world comes together to honor George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmad Aubrey - all of whom have been victims of racially-charged police brutality - the Kardashian-Jenner family is doing all that it can to dodge further criticism of being racially insensitive. In recent weeks, Kourtney Kardashian has spoken out about white privilege in relation to raising her children, and Kanye West has donated $2 million to the families of the three aforementioned victims. Now, the business owners in the family are also reckoning with their decisions as employers, which include evaluating the diversity in their staff and speaking out about more inclusive hiring practices.

In an effort to show her proactive stance on supporting a workplace that is more inclusive to minorities, Kylie Jenner has revealed that the Kylie Cosmetics headquarters staff consists of 53% white employees and 47% ‘black, indigenous, people of color’ (BIPOC) employees. In particular, Kylie claims that 13% of the staff members are black, and makes mention that 100% of employees are women-identifying. In the statement, Kylie also mentions that the company’s leadership team consists of only two people 0 Kylie and Kris Jenner - thus justifying the lack of top executives who are black. Considering the recent reports that Kylie and Kris have been feuding, the statement also serves as a new chapter in the alleged family drama. Sharing these employment statistics has been a growing trend among fashion, health, and beauty brands who are partaking in the "Pull Up For Change" social media challenge. Given that Kylie owns one of the most successful companies in the industry, her statement wields importance and puts pressure on competitors to disclose their hiring practices and speak on their diversification efforts. With that said, Kylie was accused of lying about her finances just last month, which may inform how some will interpret the employment statics she has now shared.

Over the years, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians stars have been accused of being tone-deaf on various occasions. While some observers believe that a staff consisting of 13% black employees is not a significant number for Kylie Cosmetics, one must note that this percentage is higher than the numbers shared by most of Kylie’s beauty and health competitors who have also partaken in the "Pull Up For Change" challenge.
