Fast & Furious 10 & 11 Ending Franchise With Two-Part Movie

Universal Pictures is plotting the end of the main Fast & Furious franchise with a two-part finale, with Justin Lin returning to direct Fast 10 and Fast 11. The last few years have seen the Fast & Furious become one of the world's biggest movie franchises. Vin Diesel's action franchise's upwards trajectory began with Fast Five, and the movies have been unstoppable box office hits ever since. The popularity even has helped get spinoffs and an animated TV show off the ground.

The Fast & Furious franchise was slated to debut its latest chapter, F9, in theaters this year, but it was delayed until 2021 due to COVID-19. The next installment is set to include some big changes, such as John Cena playing Dominic Toretto's brother, and will include Han's return. F9 is also confirmed to do what most fans have been calling for and take the story to spaceF9 won't be the end of the franchise, but we now know that the end is in sight.

According to Deadline, director Justin Lin is returning to direct Fast & Furious 10 & 11. The movies will serve as a two-part finale to the main Fast & Furious franchise. Fast 10 previously had a 2021 release date, but it now is left without one after F9's delay, as is Fast 11. The cast is not confirmed for either of the two movies, although franchise mainstays like Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris are all expected to appear. Veteran franchise writer Chris Morgan is expected to write both scripts.

The news might not be too surprising to some fans, as Diesel previously teased that Fast 10 could become two movies. With this announcement, Fast & Furious will be the latest major franchise to have a two-part culminating story. Franchises like The Hunger Games and Harry Potter broke up their final book for two-part movies, while Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame serve as a two-part concluding story to the Infinity Saga.

It will be fascinating to see which characters return for the final two movies now. It would make sense for Hobbs, Shaw, and their supporting cast to appear to bring the franchise's biggest stars back together again, while Gal Gadot's Gisele could be the latest character to return from the dead too. Plus, with F9 bringing back several long-forgotten characters, Justin Lin's love for the franchise and the goal to wrap up the main story would make these films the perfect opportunity to bring back many others.

The plan might be for the main Fast & Furious franchise to end with these next two movies, but there is no doubt that the larger universe will continue on. Dwayne Johnson has confirmed Hobbs & Shaw 2 is in development and an all-female spinoff has been discussed. Still, these upcoming movies could be the last time that Dom or other franchise mainstays appear, so hopefully Fast & Furious crafts a satisfying ending for the main story.
