One gamer brought the Among Us crewmates to life for their partner this week in the form of an incredible birthday cake. Since its sudden rise to fame earlier this year, Among Us has been the subject of innumerable fan tributes, from cakes to more traditional endeavors like fan art and animations.
Although the game was released back in 2018, Among Us saw a major surge in popularity this year due to popular Twitch streamers and YouTubers picking up the game and playing it live. No one has pinpointed one particular reason for Among Us' sudden emergence in mainstream gaming, but the lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic was very likely a factor. Among Us is the perfect game for social distancing, since both friends and strangers from all over the world can work together to create team strategies. Plus, many players find it helpful to communicate via voice chat on Discord during gameplay.
Reddit user Teltorne shared photos of an adorable surprise in the Among Us subreddit this week and revealed that their wife made the cake to celebrate the Redditor's 36th birthday. Fellow players flocked to the comments to praise the surprise. On top of the cake's base sat a cylinder covered in a printed fondant of the game's lobby filled with crewmates of every color, with names like Fred, chump, barf, and someone. Finally, the cake was topped with sculptures of three crewmates - orange with a pumpkin hat, red with devil horns, and a mini green - presumably representing the couple and their future child, as Teltorne also noted that their wife is pregnant. A sign behind the sculptures read "I run out of O2 when I see you."
In the comments section, Teltorne elaborated that the cake was chocolate with strawberry. User tRexArms4 also pointed out one very special detail: red appeared to have a small baby bump. The top-notch cake was an overwhelming success in the Reddit thread, with many users congratulating the couple on the pregnancy and wishing Teltorne a happy birthday. Some people referenced popular Among Us memes. Others commented on the pure wholesomeness of the gesture. "I asked Siri what is love and it took me right to this post," user squeagles wrote. Of course, many users cracked jokes about red being sus.
Of course, along with the rise of Among Us, the characters have been the subject of many fan art pieces and crafts. For example, now that it's Halloween season, players have carved Among Us crewmates and impostors into pumpkins for awesome Jack-o'-lantern designs. There's a ton of room for creativity in Among Us, and it's always a huge treat to see how fans will emulate their favorite parts of the game in real life next.
Among Us is available on PC and mobile devices.
